APS Elem Language Arts

I have a rising K student. Can someone tell me which curriculum is used (reading specifically, but interested in writing/grammar, too).

How much time is spent using apps?
Anonymous
We use Heggerty phonics, not sure what my K uses for writing. I don’t think they use apps very much, but there is some time on Lexia. My older kid also uses CKLA for reading and writing plus Lexia.

OP, did you check the APS website?
Anonymous
They use Lexia on iPads but my kid hit the end of the first grade levels in January so he hasn't been on it since then.

Wait do all schools use handwriting without tears?

No. Some use Fundations instead.

Why no consistency?

5 years ago, APS was doing silly whole language / balanced literacy stuff.

They just moved to a Phonics-centered Science of Reading curriculum which seems sound. (Thanks to the NAACP for pushing APS on this.)

APS also now are using at least some of the Core Knowledge curriculum, which is sound and builds good knowledge foundations. (CK is NOT related to Common Core, btw.)

So APS has made big recent improvements in these areas.

Our school definitely uses fundations and CKLA. Really good improvements here.
