I just moved here (Arlington) and am in desperate need of colorectal surgeon and gastroenterologist recommendations. I did try out Fairfax Colon Rectal and I found the doctor to be so nice and informed, but he did not seem concerned that he was really hurting me during the exam (whereas my old surgeon in NYC was VERY careful not to hurt me and sensitive about this, etc). I just thought he was way too rough and it made me really uncomfortable.
Any recommendations? |

I went to doctor Morton for a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. I thought he was nice, but he didn't do an office exam on me so I can't exactly answer your question.

Not sure where you live, but thought I'd share the following...Several months ago my husband had a good amount of the sigmoid portion of his colon removed. His surgery was performed at Holy Cross Hopsital in Silver Spring, and his surgeon was Dr. Eric Oristian, located in Wheaton, MD. For a variety of reasons, he needed to see Dr. Oristian many times before and after the surgery. He's a general surgeon, but does a lot of colon surgeries. After seeing him on and off over a period of about 8 months, we got to know him pretty well. His office staff is amazing. We highly recommend him. His contact info is as follows:
Eric A Oristian MD 2730 University Boulevard West Suite 216 Silver Spring, MD, 20902 Phone Number:301 - 942-4080 |
| I am in Arlington but will definitely travel for the right doctor. Thank you! |
Hi OP...I'm the poster who recommended Dr. Oristian. Another factor that made us even more comfortable with this doctor, was the fact that Dr. Oristian also operated on our internist (same type of surgery). In fact, our internist flew his mother into Maryland so that Dr. Oristian could operate on her as well. He comes highly recommended in the Montgomery County, MD area. I see that you are in Arlington, which is quite a distance from Montgomery County. I guess it wouldn't hurt to give him a call

I actually know of a very good femail colonrectal surgeon in Arlington, her office is in one of the buildings at Virgnia Hospital Center and her name is Dr. Jennifer McQuade. She has a partner who is a male, also very good - Dr. Wiltz. They are highly trained and specialized, even doing robotic surgery.

I don't know who you saw at Fairfax Colon & Rectal, but I had a very good experience with Dr. Paul Savoca. It's a big practice...maybe see one of the other docs?
I have Crohn's disease and am in the process of switching docs. My GI for 12 years had no experience with the biologics, so I switched to a GI that did. His standard of care was so poor that I'm currently on the search for a good GI with Crohn's experience. good luck in your search. |
| PP, try Dr. Robynne Chutkan in Chevy Chase. She's an expert in Crohn's as well as an excellent gasroenterologist. |
| I'm in FFX county, and Chevy Chase is too far...but thanks for the recommendation. If I get desperate enough, I may just cross the bridge... |
NP here - I just called her office, and she doesn't take insurance. A first visit is $400. As DH is unemployed, I can't really afford this. Plus I was a bit annoyed because her website info lists all the different insurance she accepts. (out of date obviously) I'm on BCBS - anyone have any other suggestions? |
I am pretty sure Jennifer McQuade/Washington Colorectal Surgery accepts BCBS. Her office is located in Arlington (at Virginia Hospital Center), which really isn't too bad for someone from MD. |
| Thanks for the info - at this point it's worth the trip over the bridge! |

Metropolitan Gastroenterology Group for gastroenterologists -- they have offices in DC, Bethesda and Chevy Chase.
Dr. Thomas Stahl at Washington Hospital Center for a colorectal surgeon. I have Crohn's and he was my surgeon two months ago. He did an amazing job and was wonderful to deal with. |
| Dr. Charles McBride in Fairfax is excellent. |
| Dr. Matt Chandler and Dr. Amir Ali at GW University's Medical Faculty Associates, downtown in Foggy Bottom and Digestive Disease Associates in Rockville. I have Crohn's (and a bowel resection) and have gotten excellent care at both. Unfortunately the surgeon who did my surgery moved out of the area, but I heard the new surgeon at GW is also good. I also hear great, great things about Fairfax, but I'm sure there are several practices operating out of INOVA. I am a little wary of the rest of the community hospitals... too many folks who don't see enough complicated Crohn's. Only the major centers see enough patients to really say that they do this all the time. |
