I have an important job interview coming up and need something nice and also very professional. Where do you shop for business attire? I feel like I used to just go to Brooks Brothers, but that isn’t an option. I am in my 40s. |
I like jcrew and theory suits |
J Crew |
Fold London |
I used to love theory but I feel like their cuts are not quite right for me in my 40s anymore. I really like Hugo Boss for classic wool-blend suiting. |
Tahari? |
Some snobs will laugh, but check out Jaclyn Smith's Nordstrom Rack line. It is a great line. Tweed, wool, blends, etc |
Go to Nordstrom, Saks, or Bloomingdale's and try on a variety of brands. Ask a salesperson for help, and don't get hung up on labels. What looks best in you might not be a recommended or well-known brand.
If you have time, get it tailored (95% of the time, suits will look better with even just a tiny adjustment). |
Depends on how long until your interview, but The Tailored Man out in Tysons is great. It’s not a bespoke suit, but it is custom tailored for you. I’ve got a narrow waist and really wide shoulders, and it was the first suit I’d ever worn that looked good on me. And it wasn’t that much more than a BB suit. |
+1 The Fold London, Vince or Theory |
I went to Nordstrom at Montgomery Mall a few weeks ago and the pickings for formal women’s clothing were slim. Many items had to be ordered, so give yourself enough time if you shop there. |
I absolutely love Hugo Boss! |
Agree that theory is no where near as viable as this forum makes it out to be. The styles are designed for women in their 20s doing their first job interviews. They are both bland, too young, and not nice fitting. Sorry to the theory lovers.... |
None of those department stores still carry suits. Bloomingdale’s -might- have a Hugo boss option on the floor among their other Hugo boss stuff, but otherwise that’s what you’re stuck with. It’s been that way for at least 15 years. You have to go online or do speciality stores like BB. I recommend the Fold. Suits have kind of become passé for women, especially past a certain age, like maybe past early thirties. The Fold offers non suit really high end work appropriate stuff. MM lafleur is another cheaper option here in the US that will serve you well (note that MM lafleur also doesn’t really sell suits - so this seems to support my position that women past age 30 don’t wear suits anyone for purposes of conservative professional wear). |
