Bathroom Safety in Montgomery County Public Schools

Anonymous
Hi DCUM,

I’m a senior at a high school in the DMV area, and I am currently working on a project about bathroom safety in Montgomery County public schools. As you are probably aware, public schools such as BCC and Richard Montgomery have recently had overdosing and robbing incidents occur in the bathrooms. I am interested to hear the perspectives of you all, the parents, on this issue. Do any of you have children affected by it? I read that MCPS recently established a safety plan–is this plan working? What else do you think could be done to help increase bathroom safety?

Thank you!

Boy, did you come to the wrong place to get data! Hearsay, finger pointing and general hostility to MCPS is the rule here.

OP here - I totally understand! I myself have many issues with the MCPS system. I'm interested to hear parents' concerns. Go ahead and point fingers – I completely agree with you!

There was a recent thread about a bathroom security announcement that generated a lot of discussion. You might find something useful there.

If you’re working on a “project” then the proper way to collect data would be to contact central office or the school to request said data. If you need testimony seek it out from students and parents at schools. So I’m labeling this a troll post meant to generate finger pointing and ridiculous discussion had already.

No my kids are not affected by this. Given the size of the county, I'm surprised incidents like this don't happen more frequently, but still extremely rare. Kind of like getting struck by lightning so I'm not worried about it.

It's most likely not true at all and just another post to troll up anxiety and unrest by the usual right wing agitators.

No. Because that data does not provide the whole picture. MCPS definitely does not report and document every incident that occurs in bathrooms.

Contact Wheaton high school and ask about the status of their bathrooms. Vandalism there is happening on a daily basis and bathrooms are regularly taken out of commission as they await repairs. Toilets jammed, sinks pulled off walls etc…

There was an article you could look up online on the sorry state of the bathrooms at the old Montgomery Blair HS, now the Silver Spring International MS and an elementary school.

I hope this is a creative writing assignment and not a serious analysis because this is not a good way to collect reliable information.

My guess is a private school parent needing reassurance about their tuition.

Sorry, kid—the parents around here are all too jaded to help with your project.

I asked my kids about it. They hadn't heard anything about these problems. They only said the bathrooms could be cleaned more often.
