“During transition periods and more unstructured times, like before school, after school and lunch periods, schools may limit access to designated restrooms.”
So, at the impacted secondary schools, when do kids use the bathroom? During class only? Or wait during lunch for the only open restroom? Will teachers always allow kids to use the bathroom during class? |
That's insane. They need to figure something else out. |
I am livid that they restrict bathroom use when girls on their periods or kids who have intestinal issues MUST get to a bathroom quickly without needing to explain themselves to all and sundry.
My DD at Westland MS already says there are days when teachers don't have enough bathroom passes in class, or get angry and suddenly issue a moratorium on going to the bathroom. I have told her to go between classes, and that I don't care if she's late to class, but if they start restricting access then, what are kids supposed to do??? It's like a badly managed prison. |
This is called collective punishment and it is a really bad way to manage anything. If some kid goes to the bathroom and vapes or does drugs or fighting or whatever, punish that kid. But do not punish the entire community. |
Maybe the school should not open their doors so early before school if there are safety and drug use issues.
And remove the bathroom doors which are unnecessary. And have very frequent bathroom monitoring during times when drugs or violence are more likely to occur. |
Bathroom doors are unnecessary? |
kids will be given diapers in the morning. |
I assume they mean the hallway doors, not the stall doors. |
I have a kid in middle school and in high school. I asked them how they were handling this. They hold it until they can go into certain bathrooms. My HS at Sherwood does not like going into bathrooms because he says that kids are always in their vaping they always smell like weed. It’s worse this year than last year. My ds is in middle and I worry when she’s on her period . They have a certain number of bathroom passes each semester and I can’t speak for all of the kids, but my daughter is afraid to use them. So if they’re going to restrict bathrooms, there needs to be a certain amount of flexibility for kids to use the bathroom’s that are open. So either letting them go during class or maybe giving them an extra minute before class ends. |
Well they need to do something! My kids middle school had kids smoking weed in a bathroom last week. Apparently near the front office, even? So yeah, keep the main door open, figure out how to prevent this crap. |
Haha yes I meant the hallway doors. They are also not sanitary |
compromise involves tradeoffs and these seem acceptable |
that doesn't happen at our school but as long as it's non-violent don't care if people are concerned maybe they should call the cops since it's probably not legal for kids to be doing this |
It would help if you found a new hobby. Obsessing about bathrooms seems unhealthy. |
Until your adolescent has a traumatizing leak into their clothes!!! You want that for your kid? You'd be ready to suffer that as a teen yourself? There are a lot more kids who are anxious about not going to the bathroom than there are kids who do illegal things. NO WAY. |
