How to handle this

Anonymous
I’m a fed, I promoted a couple years ago to a supervisory/management position. My new office has always had high turnover. Initially I thought the bad apples that were leaving but now even the new folks that I’ve been involved in hiring seem to be indicating they want out.

It’s not something unique to me, every few months someone will promote out, retire, go on a long detail etc.

What would you do in this situation?

Very normal in some fed agencies. I have worked in 4 different agencies and always had turnovers. However, always look for work environment and promotion potential. Those factors may also impact staff.

I would consider if this is just the way it is—it is in my office as well. However, it is stressful for everyone. Can you live with that stress if your analysis tells you this is unchangeable? If the answer is no, start planning your own escape.
