What does your healthy mobile 80yr old parents eat daily?

I am trying to get my mom to eat healthier foods but I feel 1. she is not eating enough 2. low quantity of protein.

Oatmeal, quinoa, millet, amaranth, golden milk, lots of homemade yogurt, green juice, tea, lemon-ginger water, lentils and beans, paneer, lots of cooked and raw veggies, some - eggs, fish, chicken. Olive oil, butter and ghee. Boatload of spices and herbs. Nuts, nut milk. ginger, garlic, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, mint. Andean mint tea. Moringa tea.

Gud (jaggery), honey. Very little sugar.

No soda, no alcohol, no processed meat, no baked goods, no sugar, no fake sugar, no low fat anything. They take minimal processed foods and they make fresh food every day.

OK, this is WAY healthier than my in-laws.

Mine eat something like this:

breakfast: cereal with some sliced banana, lots of coffee

lunch: FIL eats leftovers; MIL eats a ham sandwich and a donut or cupcake

dinner: Pretty healthy. Chicken or fish with vegetables. Sometimes a burger and a bagged salad. Simple. They could eat better, but they could also eat worse.

My mom certainly does not eat enough, but she eats decently and simply (she lives alone so not often likely to cook much for herself). She's still obsessed with remaining thin. 5'9" and *maybe* 130.

Chicken
Hardboiled eggs
Salads
Vegetables
3 musketeer bars
non-fat, decaf latte is a "meal"
whole grains in the form of a bowl of popcorn

81 yo mother has cake everyday for breakfast. Hamburger or steak sandwich for lunch. Handfuls of Cheerios and Pepsi throughout the day. Chicken or steak for dinner or Chinese food. I think the cheerios are somehow keeping her healthy.

When she lived alone, my mother lived on Cheerios with blueberries and tuna sandwiches. She does not cook.

Now that she's in independent living, she eats hot food with protein and she's a million times healthier.

My Dad is in his 80s and while always pretty trim, has a history of clogged arteries. So he watches his cholesterol.

He has 2 eggs, sometimes with bacon, most mornings. Toast too. 2 cups of black coffee too.

Lunch is light; maybe a small sandwich or a few bites of leftovers. He’s a sucker for an afternoon pastry or sweet bite with a cup of coffee, but doesn’t do the sweets daily.

Dinner is fish and veggies or salad. Sometimes chicken and very occasionally steak. Ice cream or other treat for dessert. He also has 1-3 glasses of wine most nights I’d say.

But he rarely snacks, cooks at home, and only occasionally eat out. His portions are small. He’s pretty active. Still rides his bike around the neighborhood, goes for walks, etc.

But not much of any of it. Everything is “so big” (and we hear this at every opportunity)

I say unless she is starving herself let her eat what she wants. How does she feel?

My mom eats terribly but is mobile and healthy, takes no meds. As far as I can tell she eats mostly Oreos or brownies and drinks a lot of milk. For dinner she likes spoonfuls of peanut butter and some raisins. I’ve urged her to try some vegetables and she makes a grossed-out face and yells “ick!!”

I wish I was joking.

My 87 yr old parents are fans of bologna, mayonnaise, daily wine and bakery goods. I’m kind of jealous.

I think they will deliver to every senior regardless of income level.

My mom is 81 and I do her Instacart orders. She likes Eggo products, frosted mini wheats, PB&J, hot dogs, Tasty Kakes, Fritos, pop tarts , ice cream, bananas and frozen dinners. Sometimes a can of green beans. Oh, and she has been a smoker for 65 years. She's like 110 pounds. She eats this crap, but would never consider eating more than the recommended serving size of anything.

MIL is 87 and eats maybe half an English muffin for breakfast, a few bites of whatever leftovers she has for lunch and maybe a few bites of meat and whatever side for dinner. I think she could get 4 meals from a chicken thigh. I don't understand how she's able to survive but she's not as thin as my mom (or me and I eat like 10x this amount). It must be all the wine.
