Things to do in Boston with tweens: not art or shopping!

Anonymous
Taking two teens to Boston and want to avoid art museums or shopping. Also want to avoid Harvard as we have already been there.

What family activities would be fun to do that fall outside these categories?

Any day trips that do not require a car?

TIA!

We were recently in Boston with teenagers. They loved the Italian bakeries in the North End. We also enjoyed the science museum in Cambridge. We went to the aquarium, and it was fine, but not spectacular. The Tea Party Museum was surprisingly fun.

We killed some time taking one of the tour busses. Quick way to see a bunch of stuff and hear some history and then decide where to focus our time.

This plus the tea party museum (a hit with our teens who hated the freedom trail walking tour).

There is a behind the scenes tour of the Boston Garden. Also a food hall nearby for before/after. Further, walking distance to Little Italy and the amazing bakeries.

Our Little Italy is called the North End, just an FYI.

In the North End - be prepared to wait, but definitely hit Neptune Oyster. (Go right when they open and it's not as bad.) Try a hot lobster roll and a cold lobster roll and figure out which one you like better! I am partial to Bova's as the best bakery in the North End, but Modern Pastry and Mike's are also amazing. Pizzeria Regina is famous as well.

Lindt chocolate store in Back bay
Cafe Jonquil (also Back Bay)
Paid Walking tour where the guide dresses up like Colonial times (my teen loved this, great tour!)
Beacon Hill/Acorn St
Lukes Lobster (we enjoyed the downtown and Back Bay locations)
Modern Pastry in North End (make your own cannoli)
Night time paid walking tour (ghost or murder tour)
Faneuil hall and Quincy market are a mist of course, but relentlessly crowded. We just stopped there for our bathroom break (was a line).

Boston is such a lovely vibrant city. My teen loved our spring break trip there. Enjoy!
