Staying in a cluster due to home-ownership but not living in that cluster?

Anonymous
I have a child in the BCC cluster who wishes to continue attending school there to stay with friends.
We are looking for a new home, and that home might end up in the Whitman or Churchill cluster. We were planning on renting out our old home instead of selling it.

Can my child stay at BCC?

Anonymous
No. Your child can only attend where their primary residence is. Yes someone will report you for this and no you won’t know who did.

You can't do that legally, but unlike PP, I don't think you'll get caught.

What year is your child? We had neighbors who received permission recently for DC to stay at their school for senior year. Not sure they’ll be so accommodating if you have a freshman

You can ask for permission to stay at your home school. I think it would be up to the BCC principal to approve it.

OP here. Thanks. Is it really that common for people to report others? BCC is not at capacity right now, so it's not like we're stealing a coveted spot from someone else...

Certain grades it's easier to get permission. 4th-5th, 7th-8th

or in HS where moving is disruptive

What if new family has a child there at same address as your child?

Yep, very common, in the rare cases people coming this type of fraud. If you’re comfortable both committing fraud and being publicly accused with fraud go ahead.

Imagine being so morally bankrupt that you're cool trying to justify your behavior and also committing your kid to the lie.

OP - since you currently live in your BCC house, it might be worthwhile to talk with your school principal. They have the power to approve a Change of School Assignment (COSA). Given that Churchill and Whitman are over enrolled and you child is just asking to remain at the school she is already attending, you might stand a good chance in receiving a COSA.

OP here.

Thank you, PP.

To the others: you can’t shame me. This is my last kid in MCPS, we’ve paid taxes here for years, and I’m perfectly fine morally, even if subterfuge is necessary. BCC is even ranked lower than the schools we’d be moving into! I just wish to avoid a change of schools for my youngest.

Churchill is over-enrolled, but Whitman isn't (due to a recent addition there).

Shut up. The OP lives in MoCo and pays MoCo taxes. Who cares? BCC isn't even rated as high as the school areas they mentioned being interested in. Y
