Plus size summer uniform for moms

Anonymous
I’m a teacher, home this summer. Size 14/16.

I hate shorts but might need to wear them…

Would appreciate links!
Thanks!

Cotton dresses from Target and Old Navy are my go-to's (with slip shorts under them). Any of the above would look completely horrendous on me (~16ish apple shape).

Dresses with undersummers underneath. Tshirt dresses from old navy are great for playground, errands, etc. I love linen dresses (Faherty is great) for dinners out, hanging with friends, etc. Shorts suck.

I'm your size, the only one of those three I might consider wearing is the 5" inseam shorts, but even then, NO.

I really liked shorts in previous years from Wit & Wisdom that have the 'absolution" panel.

I also really like the Linen from Quince.

Don't buy anything with a tapered leg, it will look terrible on you. Either get a straight or slim leg or a wide leg. Tapering will make you look like a bowling ball with legs.

I have a couple of skorts in a heavier denim fabric that really hold me in. Go great with any top.

+1. Shorts are awful for those of us with severe cellulite/edema. I greatly prefer a knee-length cotton/viscose flowy dress with cotton bike shorts or slip shorts underneath. My favorite summer dresses are from Boden (they go up to size 20/22). I love their cotton/viscose jersey knit dresses and their cotton shirtdresses. They release these every summer. A basic black or navy jersey knit dress can be worn with sneakers, Birkenstocks, or dressed up with nice sandals/shoes and jewelry for dinner out. They don’t show sweat and they’re comfortable. Pretty much perfect. I’m sure other stores sell these too.

Untuckit sells nice shirtdresses.

Wearing shorts PLUS a dress/skirt is way too hot for summer.

I have some jockey ones that are super lightweight and wicking - I don't feel hot in them.

I NEVER wear shorts. Luckily I live in a place with low humidity, so I can wear jeans in the summer. When I’m on vacation somewhere tropical, I wear light weight/draw strings pants. I’m size 12 and refuse to wear shorts.

Me again. I would try something like this:

At that size, I only wear shorts for exercise - biker shorts that go to above by knee. I mostly wear dresses. Mostly loose for casual/daily wear.

I wear cotton or linen cotton mix dresses instead of shorts. Sometimes, if the skirt is short, I will wear light weight wicking shorts underneath but they are more like underwear than actual shorts.

Jean shorts are too hot and sweaty for my plus size 18 body I'm the summer.
