The preview video looks really nice and it would be a huge upgrade from my current gym. But it is $260/month! Interested in thoughts from people who go to other locations. I can afford it but just don’t know if I can justify the cost. |
I think you can do a full week test with right to cancel. I used to go to Equinox but they didn’t bring back childcare fast enough and Life Time has been absolutely wonderful for me. |
Pay $180 in Annapolis. It’s actually a cost saver as I was paying $180/month for unlimited yoga at a studio plus another gym. Now I get the yoga a gym for $180. |
Is the gym much nicer than cheaper ones? |
I love Lifetime. It is so nice. It's always super clean and has so many classes and a restaurant, pools, sauna and a spa. |
Yes, which is why they call it an “Athletic Country Club” not a “gym”. |
How did you find out it is $260? The other gyms are 180 or lower. Columbia was $129 last year then increased to the 180 standard price. Hopefully not all the gyms are going to 260 next year. It is a nice gym though if you have multiple kids. |
Lifetime’s membership is in tiers. The older ones like Fairfax (which is still nice) are in the lower price range. The really nice ones, often in cities, can be twice as much. But all Lifetimes are nicer than the normal gym. I also pay for Annapolis and it’s twice as much as I paid for my previous gym but it is *so* much nicer. If you work out most days, it’s worth it. If you only go once or twice a week, it’s not. |
I agree with all of this and I also go to Annapolis. If you see me posting on DCUM from the treadmill, hush! ![]() |
How do you think it will compare to the St James? My membership there was only $150ish and it has a really nice pool. |
I doubt it is as big, but it really depends on what you are looking for. |
We pay about $400/month for our whole family. Easily justified because we don’t have to pay any other fees for gyms, classes (spin, yoga, and pilates), pool club, or childcare. |
I am seriously considering it but with the coworking space (bc I can deduct for tax purposed as a business expense). But it will be $500/mo! Anyone else considering doing the co-work? (I like the idea of workout then work. Or vice versa). |
This one doesn't even have a pool! |
I’m a St James member and I am going to quit in favor of this facility. I live in Arlingtin, and The Saint James is just too far, I thought I would use it for more, but in fact, I never do. I really like the child care facility, but other things we join for, to use the courts and fields, has been annoying. They are always booked. In addition, the pool is massive, but way too cold, so we don’t really enjoy it. The waterpark is amazing, but it’s not set up for independent play, and the pool is also far too huge for us to use without me being extremely active there. For the water park, I have to be inside, and that’s not super fun. Similarly, for the super awesome amazing, I have to be there to supervise. So what’s the point. It also gets really crowded on the weekends.
Basically, I use a fraction of what The Saint James offers, all the things that we would like to use more are add-on fees are never available when we want to use them. |
