Is Bullis the new Sidwell??

Move over Big threes. It's hard to argue against facts. Is Bullis the new number one school in Greater DC?

This is where Bullis grads are going to college. Many of the the Colleges are the best in the country/world.

Is Bullis the new Sidwell prestige-wise?

Bullis did well this year. I don’t think it makes the school the equal of Sidwell, though.

Are you seeking to provoke a pointless conversation? Curious, why is this topic worthy - in your mind? Seems rather pointless. Or maybe the point is to provoke discord?

You are joking, right??? Bullis received so much unworthy negativity here that it's ridiculous. Does it bother you that the facts show otherwise? Why can't we have a talk about Bullis being the best. By the way it also has the best campus.

The level of work at Sidwell and Bullis are vastly different in both depth and quantity, as are the level of expectations and corresponding assessments (how hard they grade).

Do you have children attending both schools? Also, assuming you are correct with your assertion, maybe Bullis is teaching the children more efficiently? Look at the colleges...

In the current private school and college admissions markets where there are (a) more highly qualified students seeking private schools and (b) the test optional college admission environment that no longer favors traditional private schools as much as it once did it is highly likely that the admissions results between say Sidwell and Bullis converge more. It is a combination of Bullis getting higher quality students than they used to and the reduction in admission advantage to say Sidwell because of a combination of reasons, among them grading policy. So this isn’t surprising to me. I’d expect that the results of schools like Bullis, Landon, and St. Andrews to increase relatively the results of Sidwell and GDS to decrease relatively. But of course Sidwell and GDS’ absolute results will remain strong overall.

No. Using "pointless conversation" does not imply that there is a foregone conclusion about which school is 'number one' (whatever that means). The point is that the entire topic of 'which is better' is not worth discussing/bickering over and the original poster seeks merely to gin up discord -- with little apparent upside. You read my post in a manner in which it was not meant. I can see how it could -- maybe -- be read that way but I suggest that you stand down. Also, who cares what a bunch of anonymous posters think?

We have younger kids (k-8) and value the independent school experience. College admissions are not the reason we send out kids to private school.

That being said, we care a lot about college admissions and would not send our kids to a high school which didn’t show good college admissions.

Our friends with kids at some of the big 3 schools complain a lot more about their kids stress than those at schools like Bullis, Flint Hill, etc. If the other schools start doing well with college admissions, we will go there.

Bullis is sending kids to Ivy and top 10s.

My statement has nothing to do with college admissions.

It is a valid question whether the amount of rigor and the hard core approach at Sidwell is better or necessary. For some kids it is, for others it may not be. Some thrive on the academic environment of Sidwell or go there because they are tired of being considered a nerd or want the opportunity to find other nerd friends and not be made fun of for loving to learn. For others, they may be just as bright and are go getters who will get everything Bullis has to offer them and prefer to work hard but in a less intense community.

In terms of college admissions, parents should understand that the majority of elite admissions have a hook - whether that be legacy/VIP, sports, URM. They type just may differ across the schools.

For full transparency, how about saying how many are legacy and sports recruits.

You avoid the question regarding if you have/had children at both. Obviously you do not have personal experience regarding the "hard core" rigor at both. So stop chiming in about it.
