Restaurant sticker shock

Anonymous
Is anyone else feeling major sticker shock at restaurants? I feel bad for the restaurants because I know they are having the pass along their increased costs, but darn it, we are feeling the pinch and not eating out nearly as much as we used to.

Recent example: went to a German restaurant in the District. 2 entrees, 1 dessert, 1 beer, plus tax and tip, and the total was $115. This was just a casual midrange restaurant and we didn't even have apps and I drank water.

Yes, it’s definitely gotten more expensive. This has challenged me to up my cooking game, and I’m actually enjoying it quite a bit! But I do feel bummed sometimes that I can’t go out as much as I did. I like the bustle and ambiance of a restaurant, and of course they do some things that I find it difficult to replicate, even as a pretty decent home cook.

I feel you. We went out for Chinese the other night and our bill was $90 for what used to be roughly $50.

Yes. I now only go to restaurants to get food I can't make myself, which means most mid-range restaurants are out. Going out to eat is more of a special occasion now, where I am fully prepared to pay a high price.

Yes!

Surprised how fast the bill runs up on a basic order. We only go to tried and true places that we really enjoy and are happy to support and tip well. Even a bagel and latte pick up is $.

For sure! For both monetary and health reasons we never eat out (even fast food) more than once a month.

Agree. If I’m going to eat out, it needs to be special or something I can’t make at home. I never get fast casual or even one step up type of restaurant unless it’s a social outing.

We don’t go to those kind of places anymore except a rare occasion.

For me, it depends on the restaurant. Chinese places have increased their prices much more significantly than the pizza and the Indian place I frequent. My go to mexican place is in the middle

I’ve pivoted to a meal delivery service that makes cooking faster and easier, but doesn’t cost as much as a restaurant meal. Restaurant prices are daunting, even if you have disposable income.

Yes. We had a pizza lunch with kids ofer the weekend and it was $60!

Yes. We made a rare Chipotle purchase after a game, and I was just happy that everyone (4 people) could get what they wanted for 40ish dollars.

Went out as a group of six a few weeks ago and the bill was $400. We each had ONE drink, 2 total table apps, and entrees were pasta and the like. And we were in the burbs.

Yes. A meal at Chick-fil-A is like $12 now.

Yes indeed! It s a bummer.

Safeway's single bagels went from $0.60 to $1.15. Almost doubled.

This isn't inflation. This is gouging.
