do you always bathe your child after having put bug spray on them?

My DS goes to the park every evening so he gets sprayed w/bug spray every day but he gets a bath every other day. Should I be wiping him down with a washcloth to get the spray off of him??

In an ideal world, yes, it would be better to bathe him after bug spray. On the other hand, it is far healthier to go to the part everyday, run around and have fun, and not get the bug spray wiped off, than to only go to the park on bath nights! So I would not sweat it (no pun intended on this hot hot hot day in June!)

Another option is to spray his clothes? That can also work reasonably well and is what I am doing for me this summer since I am pregnant.

I am sure that by bedtime he has sweat off the bug spray. I am sure some of the hippies on this board are going to flame you for putting chemicals on your child though

I don't do a full bath but just use baby wipes and wipe down DS' legs when we get home.

I was wondering the same thing too about sunscreen

In the summer we bath DD every day for this reason, but we alternate full bath days with quick showers (she's 3 so can stand in the tub).

No. I use a plant based bug repellent called Repel. http://www.repel.com/ProductCategories/Insectrepellents/LemonEucalyptus/

During the summer, btw. the pool, park, other outdoor activities and sunscreen and bug spray - my kids are bathed each night.

I use the burt's bees one that is just different kind of oil mixed so I don't have to worry. That being said, it doesn't work as well!

Ditto. My 3yo and 1yo are grungy little urchins by the end of day. I'm not a dirt/germ freak, but they definitely need a bath! On nights we go to the pool, this is just a quick rinse in the shower.

yes. bath or shower. ds is 4 and these days, as it is so hot, ds gets sweaty and sticky. he likes his baths, though, so it is not a struggle.

btw, repel totally did not work for us. returned it to the store.

yes - unless it's one of the mild ones...even then I still think it should be washed off. same with sunscreen.

we do baths every night - but only wash hair every few days or when it's dirty - some nights it's a very quick bath though!

So glad I'm not the only one who does not bath everyday - even after suncreen or bug spray.

If she smells at all or is sticky - I definitely do a bath "off schedule" but otherwise I don't worry about it.

FWIW, if I wear suncreen/bugspray during the day, I almost never wash it off until I shower the next morning, unless I feel so gross that I won't be able to fall asleep.

What's bad about sunscreen that it needs washed off? (genuinely curious - I'd never heard or read that this was bad for you.)
