5 days a week office requirement job or 3 days in office/mostly remote-what’s it worth?

Curious what others think about value for a job that requires you to be in office every day 5 days a week vs one with more flexibility and option to work in office when you would like? Is there a dollar number that can be put on a job that requires every day vs the value of remote hybrid type flexibility? Or does it depend on where that office job is and what commute time looks like

I have 2 potential jobs I am looking at and trying to assess the value as the office job pays 50k more but is that worth it?

Not worth it to me. But I like being home and not commuting.

I will never return to the office 5 days a week for any amount of additional salary.

What’s the commute like? Is it 5 days in the office for the whole day, no WFH at all or are hybrid days possible one or two days a week? What’s the office like? Office vs open floor plan? Business formal vs casual?

Do you have responsibilities at home to kids/pets that other adults in the house can’t be there for?

If I had to go in for full days, 5 days a week, to an open floor plan, with a commute more than 20 min, it would probably need to be twice what I make now. My own office with a door or flexibility in how long I had to be there with WFH half-days, everything else the same - 75% more. Both my own office and flexibility- 50% more. Bad commute and every day, probably a no-go at this time in my life/this house.

To me, depends why. If 5 days a week is in intel and your work stays at the office that's a pretty big benefit.

I would go in hybrid now up to 2 days a week without a peep. I’d prefer it, actually.

To go back full-time in office? I’d need twice what I make now and a guaranteed 40-hour workweek and that’s not an option.

i mean, there is the base cost of your time per hour and the commute/prep for office, etc. and then there is the cost of what you would be otherwise doing with that time, and what that is worth to you. and then the commute costs, and the aftercare costs...

I make $100 per hour. say its an extra hour each way to go into the office.

So base cost of $50,000 just for going into the office 5x week, but I'm missing critical time with my only child that I can't get back. So double that. et cetera.

If I had my own office with a door I’d happily work there for 50k more. Cubicles, absolutely not.

I took a job for 12k more 100 percent in person. But I have no little kids and I have own private office at work

I just did this and regret it. Went from a very flexible hybrid job to a full 5 days in person job. Commute is 40 minutes each away. Guess who just put in her resignation after 8 months and spent the last 4 months looking for a job?

I actually like going into the office some days - 3 or even 4 days would be fine. But five days is too much. I was exhausted everyday and had no time to exercise; kids were getting less healthy meals and it just unnecessarily depleted my energy and made me resentful. My previous job has always been flexible and family friendly and the just became more so after the pandemic.

Think hard about this choice.

I could have written this!
I took a job where it was 3 days in office to 4 days then the week after I started, they did 5 days. Well after month 2, I was looking for a new job and I resigned after 6 months. New job will be same pay but 3 days in office encouraged but can be fully remote if needed too. It has to be better for life and family which I learned during Covid means so much to me.

Same. Organizational leaders demanding this want someone who is not me.

If your job can be done remotely but a presence is still insisted on, they can eff right off.

Oh my. This sounds like me. I realize massive mistake of being in person after 4 months. 5 days a week in-person does not compare to flexibility of working from home. I’d need at least $50K more.

Just remember that it can also be done remotely by someone far less expensive as well. Job security for the faceless folks is becoming less and less secure.
