Favorite bagged salad for a party

Anonymous
I have several activities with my kids on Friday and Saturday and don’t have time to prep a salad. I’m going to my in-laws for a casual dinner party on Saturday night and need to bring salad for 20. Any favorites out there? I’ll go to any super market in the DMV. Thanks!

I’ve never seen any of that Include any vegetables other than lettuce, so they’re pretty boring even though they come with the dressing, croutons, etc. I would just chop some additional veggies ahead of time pick any bag salad you want and bring a good dressing.

How good can a bagged salad be that you are willing to go to any supermarket in the dmv?

It takes 10 minutes to make a nice fresh salad. Less time than driving to a different supermarket.

I don't understand why kids activities on Friday and Saturday-day prevent you from preparing a salad in 10 minutes on Saturday before you leave. I mean, dump a large container of spring mix into a huge bowl, add green onions, strawberries, pecans, goat cheese, whatever, and bring a bottle of fancy dressing (or spring mix, cucumbers, peppers, grape tomatoes, shaved parm, and fancy vinaigrette and avocado ranch in bottles). This would take me, max, 8 minutes and shopping could be done 4 days ahead of time if the produce is fresh.

If you really can't do that, pick up a few takeout salads on Saturday (where are you located) on the way? Or ask to switch with a dessert person.

Caesar salad goes over well. I’ve used costco and trader joes

Costco sells large bags of Taylor Farms Sweet Kale Salad. It’s a crowd pleaser and 2 bags would probably be enough for 20 people unless there aren’t many other dishes being served.

Making salad takes me at least 30 minutes to wash and cut. For bagged salads I like the kale mixes but the asian one is my favorite. Costco has some pretty good bagged salads in larger sizes and/or has two bags in one package. Just check the dates before buying.

There are lots of salad kits now that include broccoli, shaved Brussels sprouts, sugar snap peas, probably other other veggies.

I brought this to a potluck once feeling sheepish that I didn't really make anything and there were these two men who swore they never liked salad before who were begging me to tell them how I made it so good.

The dressing is too sweet for my taste but lots of people like it.

Costco's caesar salad is good - not bagged but in the prepared food section.

I love the Organic Girl lettuce sold at Whole Foods or on Amazon Fresh - very crisp and fresh tasting - the little gem or red butter blend. You could pair it with a bottled balsamic and a few toppings - goat cheese, dried cranberries or cherries and pecans, or do grape tomatoes and persian cucumbers.

Also you can take a bagged salad throw it in a bowl, throw in other veggies that don't require prep - already shaved carrots, grape tomatoes, loose spinach, etc.

I came here to recommend the costco kale salad too.

This isn’t 1980.

Stop being lazy and chop some veggies.

I mean, you can go to the Wegmans website and order a salad from catering to pick up whenever. Some are gluten free too if you care about that.
