As amusing as this thread is, I think the explanation is obvious. Catherine is recovering well medically but probably does not look well in some way (either side effects from medications, weight gain, or colostomy bag) and is embarrassed about her appearance. Hence the photoshopping. While she appeared in public quickly after childbirth, this is an entirely different matter. The Royal family would not outright lie about her having abdominal surgery as it would be found out eventually. Medically and emotionally she is fine based on the behavior of the Middleton family.

William has always been quite lazy/soft and is likely crumpling under the stress of doing more to care for the kids (yes even with staff there is still parenting to do), supporting his recovering wife and ill father. He either missed the memorial service due to a mini emotional breakdown (and the sudden extended family death did not help this) or perhaps even a legitimate illness (gastro bug or similar).

I also think Charles’ prognosis is worse than they are letting on.

And their PR is horrible.

I mostly agree with this except for the parenting, they don't do any of that.
