Will I be safe on Spirit Airlines?

I am booked on it for next week and every time I tell people they look shocked. I'm scared. What is so bad about them?

I experienced the same reactions OP. Prior to my first Spirit flight this year, I explored Spirit's records. IN fact, Spirit has one of the industry's better on-time records and a solid safety record.

But bare bones it is. Scary narrow seats -- if you're at all round, you won't fit. If you ARE normal BMI and your neighbor is round, she will be in your lap.

Will you be safe - yes most likely. Will it be an enjoyable experience - could go either way.

You will be fine. The only real issue is if your flight gets delayed badly or cancelled. They don't have as many options.

yes you'll make it. Then you'll swear you'll never fly them again.

I flew Spirit last year. They push upcharges for everything, and are barebones. Tiniest seat back tray I've ever seen lol. But it was fine.

Spirit’s issue is not that it’s unsafe to fly it, but that because it’s a budget airline, they nickel and dime you. If they could get away with charging you for the air you breathe, they would. And yes to narrow seats. Don’t go in expecting comfort or service, and you’ll be fine. It’s the airline equivalent of a youth hostel.

You'll be fine. Honestly, I don't find it to be much worse than United Economy. It's just a lot cheaper (most of the time).

Don't know about Spirit but Allegiant, a very similar airline, was the most uncomfortable I've been on a plane in years. Narrow seats, very little legroom, and very thin seat cushions to the point where my butt was sore and it was only a two hour flight. If I flew them again, to save money, I would bring a foam cushion to sit on.
