Best way to buy a new car for my daughter

Anonymous
Daughter is in CA attending graduate school and will need a car pretty soon. She wants to use my old car -2009 accord w/ 165k. I'd prefer getting a new car for her but not sure how to get her a new car from MD. Is there a way to order one from MD and have her pick it up from CA? Any thoughts you have are appreciated. TIA

Order it in CA near her. Email dealers with what you want and you can do it long distance.

Order it (or buy it off the lot) from a local dealer in CA.

I mean, what else would even be an option?

Fun excuse for you to fly out to visit her in CA! You can go in person to a local car dealership and buy the car right then and there.
Have a nice trip to CA!

Do car dealers have new cars in stock now?

What a weird conversation. There are no cars on dealer lots in CA? If you are wasteful enough to wanting to buy her a new car and for some reason CA doesn’t have new cars you can buy in MD and ship it to her, probably costs 1-2k.

You could buy her a nice pre-owned car. But you prefer to buy her a brand new car?
It seems like money isn’t concern. Just buy here in MD and ship it to CA. Shipping cost should in the $2k range.

She should buy her own car. You can send her a check to cover what you want to cover.

Bingo bango. She is in grad school, she can make her own decisions.

What if she has no experience buying a car (or negotiating) and will get ripped off or spend the money on something that is impractical, fast depreciating, or expensive to insure?

Not everyone is a car expert or has any interest in cars beyond having one for transportation.

If I were buying any of my kids a car we would minimally have a conversation about what they want and what I'm willing to pay for. I can't imagine what horrible decision my son could make if I wired him 30K for a car and said "knock yourself out, kid!" Talk about a terrible idea.

They can make mistakes with *their* money. They don't need to make mistakes with *your* money.

Not at all my experience. OP, skip electric cars and top ranked pricey SUV’s and you should be fine to buy off the lot.
