Not everyone is a car expert or has any interest in cars beyond having one for transportation. If I were buying any of my kids a car we would minimally have a conversation about what they want and what I'm willing to pay for. I can't imagine what horrible decision my son could make if I wired him 30K for a car and said "knock yourself out, kid!" Talk about a terrible idea. They can make mistakes with *their* money.
