Awful. I had a guy do this to me on a date once and it was such a turn off. He casually asked what I was going to have and then when it was time to order went ahead and ordered it for me. I was miffed because I planned to make some kind of modification but didn't get the chance as the waitperson left. Annoying. I can speak for myself.

No, I don’t need someone to speak for me. No need for me to tell my order to him, for him to then convey it to the waiter. Weird. Why do we need the middleman?

Yeah, if I need to run to the restroom or step out to take an important call, then he's helping. But in general, I can speak for myself.
