Is a bus line to get to Mac Arthur new school?

Not yet. There’s been a big push for a bus line, since the location is so far out of the way. The planning for the new high school has been classic DC government dysfunction.

In the slide deck it says they have been in discussions with WMATA. I think there should be two busses that leave from Tenley Station to the new HS.

That's nice that you want to make it easy for OOB to get there.

But the primary need is to get IB students there. There is currently no reasonable public transportation for them.

Yup. They need a bus coming from Cleveland Park to make it doable for Eaton families.

NP but come on that site says Ward 3 as a whole is 8% black. I would guess that the area zoned for MacArthur is probably less than 8%, but even if it is that’s 8% black compared to a city that is 45% black and a school district that is 80% black at least. That is pretty lily white.

You are living in the past. DCPS is 56% black this year, per the OSSE enrollment audit, and 17% white. Yes, MacArthur is unlikely to replicate the citywide proportions. None of the neighborhood high schools do. But it’s not as disproportionate as you think.

And the US is 12% black. The stated concern was diversity. Ward 3 is very diverse along a number of vectors.

If your concern is a population that reflects the demographics of DC proper, Ward 3 is not representative. Neither is Ward 7 or 8. Ward 4 is the only ward that reflects the racial make-up of DC as a whole.

You can have Macarthur relieve student numbers at J-R (which, itself, is fairly representative of the city), or you can prioritize a specific racial makeup. The strategy for now is the former.

The Deal-for-All strategy is why J-R and Deal are so overcrowded. Hence the need for Macarthur. The goal is to take a chunk of students from J-R, not to create new spots.

And sure, it's important for the school to be accessible. But right now it's not even accessible to in-boundary students, which is a fundamental requirement.
