Magnet college acceptances this year

Do the magnets have Instagram pages where showing where kids re going to college? A lot of the schools have an instagram
page that has this info updated as kids make decisions. The Bethesda Beat publishes something in the fall but it is not separated by magnet vs non magnet.

MCPS would never allow that and never publish that info.

Seems like there was a link to this data for RMIB in another thread just last week.

Yes but not the other magnets. The instagram pages I was referring to are usually done by the kids themselves. Almost all the privates have them and some publics too. Just wondering.

My child is going to start the Blair SMCS next year, and we are excited about it because it will be a great fit, not for college acceptances. I was following the other thread on college acceptances, and totally believe there is no advantage to being in a magnet. Still, I'd love to know how and where the kids go, the way there is a list of RMIB, just to be knowledgeable.

There is the data published by Bethesda Beat, but it's not specifically about SMCS, just Blair. However, their stats typically seemed as or more impressive than any other HS in the county.

When I went to the parent info meetings for Poolesville, RM and Kennedy, each school listed some of the prestigious colleges the student at the school as a whole were accepted at but did not publish any schools specifically for the magnet program. They all listed Columbia, Yale, Michigan, UVA, etc., but for the entire school. They have the numbers; they just don't want to make them public.

I wish MCPS would go full transparency. That will shut up "Blair/RM are just as good without the magnets" posters. I can understand, however, why MCPS will never do that.

They would need to get parent permission. What do you care?

You must mean it would shut up "the it's just because of the magnets" posters.

I know and those magnet kids are also a big part of the Blair school experience and are in many classes there with everyone else. Anyway, most people who say that clearly suffer from a bad case of Blair envy.

Lots of schools have college instagram pages, but its up to the kids to post, not the school. I know that at both RM and Blair, it’s a whole school post, not magnets separately. BlairMagnet does do a magazine that the kids put out at the end of year, that does specifically tell where the magnet kids are going; but again, the kids are creating it.

And each year, yes, there are Stanford, MIT, etc.. but the majority of the kids go to UMD because that’s A)where the money is and B)there is a lot of rejection.
