Understanding Lululemon sizing - People sizing down two, three, four sizes online it seems

Anonymous
Anyone have time to break down how this works. I have been trying to figure out my sizing but it seems people are sizing down greatly based on social media reviews. I’ve seen a size 20 say she fits the size 12 leggings, another two women who are 16 and 18 are in a 12 align high neck tank.

I’m usually a 14 depending on the brand. Would I buy my usual size? The reviews on the website itself are so varied on running small or large that I started googling and found more information on Reddit.

I’ve also heard there is piling issues with Align line items.

What sizes do you wear typically and what Lululemon sizes do you purchase?

I only have a few items, but what I do have is larger than my usual size.

I have a 6 in leggings (pant size is 2 or 4 normally), 6 in a tank and an 8 in a fitted jacket (I generally wear an xs or s in tops). I could probably do a 4 in the leggings and tank, but the 4 jacket was tiny.

I'm 5'4, 115 pounds, straight build, wide shoulders, flat stomach, flat chest (flat everything really)

I have always had to size up. LLL arm holes are soooo skinny. If you have any biceps at all - you are doomed.

I am 5'8", 135 lbs and tops are a size 12 and bottoms an 8

It depends on the type of item. Their sizing can be off. I either size down a lot or have to size up a lot.

Im a tiny person who always always wears a size 0 or 00 (5’ 4”, 105 lb), and I wear a 2 in Lululemon.

The Aligns do pill eventually. I wash mine on cold and line dry to make them last longer.

The high-compression items, I have to size up. I am normally a 0/2 but regularly buy a 4/6 there.

But Align is not high-compression. It's designed for yoga and other low-impact exercise. It's very soft to the touch but doesn't really hold you in. So I think people size down because they actually want a higher compression item, especially in a high rise legging.

For Align I don't size down but I wear my regular size (I don't size up). I like that it's not as compressive and therefore more comfortable.

Almost all items items fit TTS on me (both tops and bottoms). I am 135 and 5'8" and size 6/8 on top and 10/12 on the bottom. Occasionally I will size up for a roomier fit.

I’ve had to size down 3-4 sizes in leggings.

I have to size up at LLL. I'm a 2-ish in most clothes, an XS in dresses. Stuff from LLL is so small on me. I bought joggers there last year and had to give them to my 10 year old son (though he looks adorable in them).

I have quite a bit of stuff from Lululemon, including Aligns. I’m 5’4”/115 and wear a 2 in most clothing but consistently a 4 at Lululemon for tops and leggings. I’ve heard that smaller sizes don’t map as well to street sizes but the larger ones do, FWIW. I would advise trying on items before buying, though.

I have about 8 pairs of Aligns and find that they don’t pill much if you wash on cold and hang dry them. Also make sure to only wash with other Lululemon items, not with regular clothes.

Same for me. I am also generally a size 2/0 and XS and bought shorts online in a XS that were almost comically tiny, like an XXXXXXS or child size.

Yeah I've noticed this, too. I did gymnastics and I have a small core/ribcage but larger biceps and as a result the couple of jackets I have are loose in the body but juuuust fit my arms. The jackets I have are a 6, but in most brands I wear a 2 or maybe a 4.

Do a squat test and make sure you can't see your underwear.
