I've had my Peloton bike for about 18 months and I love it - I aim for 4-5 days/week of cycle, strength, or sometimes outdoor classes. My issue is that since I started, my thighs and butt have gotten progressively bigger and now all my pants fit weird. Has this happened to anyone else? I've seen some threads on Reddit and have experimented with the seat height but it seems like it's not helping. I don't want to stop biking but this is annoying. Any suggestions? |
I will be following this thread. Same complaint here. |
Are you doing other workouts besides the Peloton? |
This is great, buy new pants. You’re building muscle. |
This is OP - I try to vary between cycle workouts and other things the Peloton offers like strength classes and outdoor classes (walking, hiking, some running). But I wanted to lose weight, not have to buy bigger pants! |
You can't change your body structure- of course as you do strength training your muscles will grow. I do Pilates and my butt grew- its just how I'm shaped. |
I've had the opposite happen. I am most lean around my thighs and butt thanks to the Peloton. But nowhere else! |
I think you just have to accept that is what your body shape will be when you are active.
I have muscular legs and for my entire life, I've always wanted slim legs. I did eventually get them, after I had a boot on for a month, my leg was as slim as what I thought I wanted my legs to be. The problem is that it was only slim because of nonuse and atrophy. After that experience, I've learned to love my legs the way they are even if knee high boots are super, super snug (wides are too big). FWIW, I'm a runner and very fit and I know no amount of exercise is going to change the shape of my legs. |
So what? People pay good money for a BBL. You gained muscle. Hopefully lost fat. |
Yup, this. At least, for me it’s how my body responds to strength/resistance training of any kind. Heavy weights? Check. Solidcore? Check. Cycling? Check. Yoga? Check. The only exercise that makes my legs somewhat smaller is running, but at 46, I can’t run enough without strength training for the former to offset the latter. Oh well. |
Putting on muscle is very easy for me. I went down in sizes but I also do the hardcore strength calendar and have a walking pad. Diet is extremely important. I went higher protein (still eat carb but in the form of veggies, fruit, and quinoa). |
Do you tend to do more heavy resistance rather than high speed? I wonder if that makes a difference. Perhaps lowering resistance but going faster will help. |
Try incorporating some boot camps into your routine. And some barre classes.
It’ll boost the metabolism, and lean you out. |
This. I am never anywhere near the resistance levels they tell you to be at, but I try to go faster. Easier on the knees and my legs don't get bulky. |
No, there is no way to exercise without getting stronger - it’s actually the point. ![]() |
