| Partial sun. Would like one that flowers in the spring/summer but still has leaves in the fall/winter. Suggestions? |
|
Azelea
Camellia Rhododendron Japanese Viburnum |
| Gumpo azalea (but they stay pretty short) |
| What about a magnolia? |
| Do they have anything that is native to the area like that? |
Kalmia latifolia and Rhododendron maximum. There are others that produce berries, such as bayberry. |
| Op here. That wasn’t me who asked about what’s native. I’m open to anything. |
| Cold hardy gardenia |
The only reliably evergreen one in this area is Southern Magnolia. |
| Kalmia latifolia needs light shade in the DMV |
| If you want berries in the winter instead of flowers in the summer there’s holly |
| Skip Laurel |
Some of the new hardy gardenias are nice. Sarcaccocca is a nice low grower. |
| Nothing is going to bloom all spring and summer except a rose or maybe a hydrangea. |
Although deciduous, the leaves on oak-leaf hydrangeas are tenacious and in the DMV a material percentage tend to stay on the bush until they are pushed off by new growth in the spring. Might be worth considering. |
