Strange email from administration in FCCPS

Anonymous
I got a strange email from the head of FCCPS about misbehavior at the secondary school after school hours?

I assume this must be serious and affect others, why would they send an email like this if some kids were drinking or smoking or something?

I find this kind of vague email very frustrating and worrying. Do our kids need to be on alert? What happened?

I don’t know either but these emails cause concern and raise questions. It appears they are trying to communicate but it would be better to not send anything. This starts rumors and people talking, as they tell us to not engage in rumors. I didn’t know anything happened before this.

Damned if you, damned if you don’t.

I want to know! What are they hiding???
And now “I’d rather not get a message.”

Some of you are so exhausting.

No, it’s that FCCPS isn’t known for clear communication and this is another example. A lot of parents and students were unaware anything happened. This brought it to our attention, didn’t give any details and told us not to talk about it. It prompted more questions than anything.

Fccps in a nutshell right there. There’s zero excuse for such a small district to have such a poor communication and yet…

I guess they are trying to protect people's privacy, but if it's at the point where they need to send a school wide email I think that ship maybe has sailed? Now we have to worry about what kind of misbehavior happened - sexual assault? racist graffiti? physical bullying? Is there a way to find out if police are involved?

It'd be better if they gave a little more information without compromising people's privacy.

They can't say much without violating student privacy laws. If it was your kid, would you want the whole community to know details? MYOB.

I thought FCCPS was known for being small and responsive?

If it was a MYOB situation they wouldn’t have needed to send out such an email.

the email sounded highly paternalistic....do as i say not as I do (dont spread gossip but I am spreading gossip)

I agree with OP- better to be specific and spell it out. If you aren't that is how rumors get started.

Nah, when a middle school boy assaults a middle school girl it’s not MYOB.

As PP said, if they said nothing you would be furious.

They probably cannot give details because FERPA.

Catch-22

And you are not owed a detailed explanation. Deal with it.

They don’t have to give personal information to explain what’s actually happening.

Are you making this up or is that what happened?

this is my point. If it's MYOB the school shouldn't say anything. If a crime or assault was committed, people deserve to know.
