| Congrats to everyone who won! My DS was a semi-finalist but unfortunately didn't make it past that. It's seriously an impressive accomplishment to win - on their website they say the majority of the 150 winners go to Harvard, Stanford, Duke, Yale, and Princeton. It's basically a feeder to the most elite schools. |
| Those are the top schools for winners? They must be top students, what does it take to win? |
They basically pick 150 of the best all-around students in the country, similar to what USA Today used to do with All-Academic Teams in the country. This year there were 91,000+ applicants to get the final 150 winners - an acceptance rate of 0.15%. |
| On Reddit I saw that over 50% of the Coke Scholarship winners went to Harvard, Stanford, Duke, or Yale. So that's over 75 kids, it's obviously really hard to get the scholarship. I don't personally know anyone who won but they publish the names |
The year my son competed they picked almost exclusively students of color. |
| My daughter knows a winner from the debate circuit. DD says she's brilliant and is going to get into many of the top schools and even has some likely letters at ivies/Stanford/Duke. |
| TJ had one. |
Classic TJ. There were a few other DMV winners |
There's a girl who won from McLean but don't know her |
| I know an incredible young lady who won the scholarship this year (not from DMV). She’s truly overcome a lot in her life and is extremely deserving. She’s off to Duke next year too! |
Would many of these kids already have full financial aid from these schools? |
No, a lot of them are highly motivated UMC kids who are 1600/valedictorian who win science fairs, debate tournaments, etc. Basically the well-rounded "superstar" mold of student. |

| My neighbors DD is a past winner. |
| I knew one. Great kid and perfect stats. Filthy rich. Half Mexican though so perhaps that was helpful in getting to the final selection. |
