My kindergartener is picky about most proton (will eat ground beef, won’t eat steak or roast; will eat chicken sometimes; fish is a crapshoot; loves beans, but I can’t handle the carbs all the time). I end up offering eggs as an alternative just to get some protein in him. I think he’s eating at least one egg per day on average, and sometimes more.
How many eggs is too many for a 45-pound kid? |

🤦♀️
Darn autocorrect. Protein, not proton! |
| You are worried that one egg a day is too much?? Not a concern at all. |
| My kid has an egg every day for breakfast. Eggs are a superfood, don’t worry about it. I would try nut butters and beans more often if he doesn’t want to eat meat. My kid loves a black bean/rice/cheese burrito. I’ll have the same beans but on a salad. |
| If he was eating 5-6 eggs a day, I would start thinking maybe that was too much of one food. 1-2 eggs per day seems like a good choice. |
| Perfectly fine. |
| Eggs are perfect protein, I can’t imagine a child of normal weight without health issues would have any issues even eating 2-3 eggs/day. |
|
I think an egg a day is absolutely fine.
I also think that both referring to beans as too much carbs, and labeling a kid who eats ground beef, eggs, beans, and some chicken and fish as “hard to get protein into” makes me think that there is some unhealthy thinking about food here that you should examine. |
| Two eggs a day is fine. You're probably overestimating how much they need; they only need 19 grams of protein a day. Why don't you try other plant and dairy based sources of protein too if you're so concerned - edamame, tofu, nuts and seeds, quinoa, cheese (especially cottage cheese), yogurt, etc. |
| I wouldn’t be worried unless it was more than 3. And then only because they might not be getting enough other good stuff. |
|
Hopefully you are allowing your kid to eat carbs besides beans and not making him follow whatever restrictive diet you are on.
An egg or two per day is fine. |
| Does your child drink milk? 2-3 servings of Milk, some eggs, some beans, cheese or yogurt, is all plenty of protein for a child, meat here and there |
| Eggs are so healthy. I think it's been proven the dietary cholesterol from them does not have much effect on blood cholesterol levels. Eggs do have saturated fat which does affect cholesterol levels, but kids bodies will put those fats to good use. As adults, we should limit saturated fat. |
+1 Don't restrict carbs. Let him have one sweet thing a day or it's going to backfire once he's old enough to make his own choices. |
