I'm an assistant to three partners, all of whom were planning multiple trips to multiple places and having me arrange everything in the same week. I got a little overwhelmed and in an attempt to keep track I made a chart.
I thought I had everything right. But I spent a week being sick working with the flu, then took a day off to rest and go to the doctor, where I got diagnosed with a sinus infection and upper respiratory infection and spent a week working with that. So I haven't been at my best. Today I emailed one of my partners asking that he send me his time for a few days this week, and suggested maybe he could do it on the plane to Europe. He responded back. From London. "Just arrived at hotel in London so it will be over the weekend. Btw my hotel was booked starting tomorrow. Will get it worked out!" I wrote back "Oh no! I'm so sorry!" I don't know if he knows it's my screwup or if he thinks it was the hotel's fault. But I know for sure it was my fault. How long do you think it'll take for him to tell HR to fire me? |
| I don't think you're getting fired if that is all it said and other things haven't slipped, especially if he didn't realize until at hotel and they just added a night. Another assistant. |
| You’re not going to be fired. I have an assistant and these things happen all the time - and have with my last few assistants. Only a monster would consider firing you. He is mentioning it bc he can’t not mention it - but he is in no way firing you. You are human and any good boss will understand that. Feel better! |

I literally booked the wrong jet for my CEO and he said ‘guess we’re sitting cozy on this trip’
People understand mistakes. If they don’t, maybe go somewhere else. |
| You likely won't get fired, but you need to get your act together. |
| It’s a simple mistake. If you have a good reputation with them, you should be fine. Besides, you could’ve done everything correctly and the hotel may have gotten it wrong on their end. It happens. |
| You won't get fired but perhaps this is a wake up call to take care of yourself. If you're sick, you take time off. |
| Pay more attention to detail. |
There were just a lot of details to try to pay attention to all at the same time. |
| So you worked (or tried to work) while you were sick? You’re not getting fired but please consider just calling in sick and having them give this work to whoever is covering for you. |

Happened in way worse fashion to a partner in my group (city had an event, booked wrong week, and partner had to crash on a buddy’s couch.
We stopped using her to book travel haha but she wasn’t fired. |
|
I would address it. Dear partner, I have not been feeling well and have been off my game. Can we meet for 15 mins to go over all upcoming details for your feedback?
This shows initiative and ensures everything is on track Take good care of yourself OP. |
I can't take off when I'm sick unless it's REALLY bad. I have now been sick for two weeks. Taking two weeks off is not doable, especially since I'm not better yet and have lowered immunity and catch things easily so get sick often. |
God know please do not waste their time like this. Just do a better job. You apologized. Leave it at that. Or maybe follow up and ask if they want your help booking another hotel |
