No. Restaurant food is not good for you regardless of cuisine. Start cooking and if that is beyond your capability, then use one of the mealkit services.

I’m a a vegetarian and think it’s good for me. Some places will be better than others in terms of amount of oil.

Restaurants cook with canola oil generally. No good

I order vegetarian platters. Are beans, salad, and cooked greens good for you? Is teff? If this food is not healthy, what do you consider healthy?

I mean, like all other cuisines it has good for you dishes and less good for you ones…but if you’re eating a balanced meal and you like the spices, yes, it’s good for you.

Lentils have extremely high amounts of lectins, toxins that bind to your digestive tract and cause inflammatory bowel disease and leaky gut and prevent absorption of nutrients. Excessive lectin intake causes diarrhea and vomiting….. no thanks!

That must be why they are so strongly recommended in like every Mediterranean and healthy diet guide everywhere, and why they are staple foods for India and the Middle East, where rates of cardiovascular disease are so much lower.

Pretty much this. Healthier takeout is salads without a ton of cheese and nuts and sugary dressings. But generally, there’s just SO much salt in restaurant food that it’s hard to avoid. We consider takeout a splurge and adjust accordingly.

Most of the lentil dishes are made with a lot of clarified butter - one of the reasons it’s so delicious!

I have no idea if lentils do or do not have high levels of toxins. But once you say leaky gut, it's game over. That's like Dr and Daphne Oz nutrition.

Oh good to know. Now I can stop forcing myself to eat them. Why didn’t my cardiologist mention this when she told me to eat a Mediterranean diet?
