Do packing cubes actually make things easier?

Anonymous
We are taking a trip where we will be spending one night in a hotel before we leave for a cruise. We will also be shuffling things around during that time (moving 3-1-1 bags out of backpacks to put things into backpack for the day before we get our luggage delivered to our stateroom, etc.) It seems like cubes could make the shuffle easier, but somehow feels gimmicky, like I could just as easily unfold and fold to make the shift.

DCUM, sell me either way!

They are awesome! Couldn’t live without them when I travel. Helps organize everything easily and once in a hotel, you just put the cube into a drawer.

I love them so much, and yes, they make organizing your stuff easier.

I have come around to them for longer trips, especially when different family members are putting clothes in the same suitcase. I don't always find them as helpful when we're coming home and have a lot of dirty clothes. I have used them when we have been on a cruise. I would pack one dedicated cube to what everyone will need at the hotel/cruise departure day. Then all you need to find is that cube.

I dont travel without them. Not only do they help with organizing (e.g. I give a kid their cube to unpack when we arrive), its easy to re-arrange suitcases if one is overweight.

No. We travel with a minimalist wardrobe and know how to pack VERY efficiently. Cubes would just take up precious space. My mother uses packing cubes because she travels with multiple suitcases, all of which are very loosely packed, so things get jumbled up without them.

Yes, it keeps my things folded nicely, separates clothes of different family members, ensures nothing gets lost if security unpacks my bag, etc. I usually use one as a hamper for dirty clothes too.

They are truly great for all of the reasons listed. I also like to use them to corral dirty clothes on the way home.

I feel pretty strongly that the "medium" size (9x12ish) is the most useful sized packing cube. The big ones are too big to keep things organized, except perhaps for the laundry purpose, and the smaller sized ones don't seem to be worth their while. So you might want to consider that when you're buying them.

If it's just me traveling, I like to take one for socks and underwear. Otherwise no.

If you're packing kids, I think definitely yes.

I just read the title and screamed "OMG Yes!"

My DH was skeptical, but gave in and now when he goes on a trip he always asks "do we have any more of the clothes pouches". The 2 he had are worn out and he ended up ordering more from Amazon. tee hee!

We have been using them for 10 years and now don't travel without them.

I am a minimalist person and they seem like just one more thing to buy.. I bring something for dirty clothes. Otherwise its really not hard to find something in a suitcase.

I use them when I am staying in more than ond location.

I pack really tightly so they waste space in my luggage (I travel weekly). But I can understand having them with kids.

They would work very well for your scenario.

I've always been a light packer, even getting complimented by flight attendants. But once I started packing for my kids in addition to myself, I found packing cubes indispensable.
