Dr. Floyd-Cooper had just been promoted to associate superintendent 8 months ago, after being hired by MCPS in 2020. Now she'll become a director at the Wallace Foundation. |
Congratulations! |
Who? |
| I am a teacher. I have never met any of the associate superintendents. Honestly, if half of the central office staff were gone, I don't think teachers would notice right away until workloads piled up over a year. |
| LOL dang. I guess MCPS was too much of a disaster for her to stick around for even a year. |
|
Based on this quote from the announcement, I wonder what she did at MCPS.
“Dr. Floyd-Cooper is an accomplished leader with wide experience in helping districts build data-informed systems designed to advance the professional learning of educators and improve academic outcomes for students.” |
I certainly never heard of this one. My school seems to have an adversarial relationship with central office so I try to avoid being on the list of classrooms visited when the bigwigs observe for the day. |
There are three Associate Superintendents of School Support and Well-Being: Rotunda Floyd-Cooper, Peter Moran, and Diane Morris. Each of them oversees a third of the schools, mostly divided by cluster. Floyd-Cooper's schools: Seneca Valley HS McAuliffe, Dr. Sally K. Oversees? Looks at names in a pdf and goes to lunch. |
| I have kids at two of the schools she ‘oversees’ and have never heard of her. |
I'd consider it a good thing to never hear from your principal's supervisor. |
BS |
Oh good, she’s “deeply committed to equity”. #1 requirement for our public schools That totally explains why MCPS are doing so well. |
| She doesn't supervise the principals. She does wellness or some such thing for the schools on that list. It's interesting but in her goodbye post she has so many people wishing her well but no one in central office currently wishing her well. When admins leave mcps, they are apparently dead to Dr. McKnight and close colleagues. As strategies go, that seems short-sighted to me. |
DCUM is always looking to aim slings and arrows at Dr McKnight.
