Community access to all outdoor facilities at Northwood High School in Silver Spring will cease indefinitely following four recent reports of hate-based vandalism on campus targeting the Jewish community. Montgomery County Police are working to identify the parties responsible |
| Horribly unfair to the kids who live in the area and others who cannot access the fields. |
| Not minimizing the horrible attacks. The perpetrators should be caught but this punishment it's unclear to me why they are punishing the community. For all we know someone drove 10 miles to vandalize the school. |
| Safety of the students and school community comes before community use. |
Are there any indications of actual safety issues from the vandalism? |
A crazy person hanging a hateful flier may become triggered and hurt someone. The facilities are closed to the community not to students participating in MCPS activities. Do you think the school should continue allowing the public to come in and vandalize Northwood? |
I am a Northwood parent . I’m concerned about the attention the school is getting from hate groups. Sooner or later, some anti-Semitic right wing nut job won’t be satisfied with flyers and may decide to escalate to physical attacks. |
You need to grow up and realize that your assumptions about who is responsible are based on your own biases. There are many, many anti-Semites who do not fit your description. But at least now we know who wrote all of the "RWNJ" posts. |
Yeah, it's generally not the right wing who is anti-semitic. |
According to the ADL's most recent audit of antisemitic incidents: "Known extremist groups or individuals inspired by extremist ideology were responsible for 484 incidents in 2021, up from 332 incidents in 2020. This represents 18% of the total number of incidents in 2021. All of the incidents emerged from adherents of right-wing or white supremacist ideologies. Of the 484 incidents attributed to hate groups or extremists, 422 took the form of antisemitic fliers, banners, stickers or written messages. This is a 52% increase from 277 in 2020. The top distributors of antisemitic propaganda in 2021 were the Folkish Resistance Movement (formerly known as Folksfront) (179), Goyim Defense League (77), New Jersey European Heritage Association (50), and White Lives Matter (27)." https://www.adl.org/resources/report/audit-antisemitic-incidents-2021 |
| The school is assuming it is someone from the outside but they don’t really know for sure |
Making assumptions based on nothing is just plain stupid. They can’t be serious about finding the perp. Oh, and btw, certain troubled kids will do anything for attention, but Northwood doesn’t have any troubled kids. |
| Four recent incidents on campus is a lot. I have not known schools to have high security on grounds after hours, so I can understand why MCPS is closing outdoor facilities to the community access. |
|
They also had a serious drug incident 2-3 weeks ago in an out of the way bathroom.
It was a big deal and couple people went to the hospital |
| I wonder if Northwood was targeted because it is situated near Kemp Mill, which has a large Jewish population, Jewish school, a few synagogues, etc. |
