I have a freshman at Northeastern now. Rooms are small, but at some level, that is city living.

Not sure one school is "better" than the other overall. They each have plusses and minuses. Among the plusses for NU are that it has a nice campus, and a well developed coop program, which can really serve as a bridge into the workforce. Not as familiar with BU, but my step-sister had a good experience there 20 years ago.

Should also add that the schools are very close to each other, so location is not a big differentiator.

This year's juniors shouldn't even bother unless they want first year abroad- the acceptance rate will be like 3% next year because they won't have space to accommodate anyone in Boston!

They should encourage the Boston freshmen to study abroad sophomore year to make space.

I think this is right - both schools are great. NEU has the campus and coops. BU is more integrated in the city, but more traditional in terms of academics.

Except you cannot get the full first year abroad anymore, as they moved NUBound to 1 semester London, 1 semester Oakland.

IMO, it's a good school, but they so obviously care much more about the numbers (more students/more $$$) and do not really care about improving the infrastructure to support this. They are already so very overcrowded from the fall 2021 class, they tried to adjust it with fall 2022 and fall 2023, but by agreeing to let everyone in Oakland 4 year transfer after 1 year (not just if your major isn't available in Oakland---which btw, who the hell goes to a college that puts them at a location where they can't even take courses in their desired major?!?!) I can assure you majority of kids are transferring. Only plus to Oakland is the weather, that's it. It's a small campus in a not so nice area---this isn't San Fran or Silicon Valley. Look at reddit comments and the current class is filled with rich kids, partying it up waiting to get back to Boston.

I want my kid at a school that actually provides services to them for $80K/year. But when you have an extra 3-5K students on campus (and that's what they are up from 2 years ago, it might be even more, as they don't like to and dont' have to publish actual numbers) without any infrastructure changes (except lets close a floor of the library for renovations during spring semester when more students return to campus from the NUIn programs) there is no way the quality of everything is not diminished. Advisors will have more students, or your advisor will be as new as your freshman (or newer having just started spring semester). To each there own, but I expect more for my kids for 80K/year

You have to visit and see what you like better. Also compare options for the area of study at both schools to see which program/trajectory you like better. Maybe also see which is more flexible in switching majors or in double major/minor in other subjects you are interested in. Maybe compare living norms over 4 years too (on campus, where off campus).
