So tryouts for Spring soccer are starting and again so many MLS Next kids trying out.
If your child wants to play High School Soccer why not have him play ECNL or another level of soccer besides MLS Next. Why are Coaches allowing this? |
You posted the same exact thing last year, which you clrealy know becasue of your subject line.
High school coaches are allowing it becasue they want the best teams possible, and there's no rule, from the high school side, against it. If an MLS Next program is letting their kids play at public high schools, that's somethng to bring up with the program. And as for why, clearly kids want to both play on the highest level club team they can, and play high school as well. |
The problem is that other people may have chosen ECNL precisely so they could play high school soccer, and may have made a sacrifice that others have not made simply because the latter decide to flout rules. I don't care either way, but the argument is logical, as is the desire to play wherever one wants whenever one wants. |
Yes, I think we all agree that MLS Next players shouldn't be playing soccer for public high schools under the curent rules. It's fine if the OP wants to vent about it, but this has been discussed ad nauseum, and they've been advised to contact both the MLS Next program, and the league itself. If the OP has done that, I hope they share the communications, or lack thereof. |
Clearly I said again. Kind of creepy you are looking what've posted before but ok. Last year, HS coaches took a few a MLS Next players for our JV and V teams, however, once season started a few had to drop out HS because their Club found out. Yet, here we are again. HS Coaches don't care but I'm surprise they didn't take note from last year. They could have given those spots to players who want and are wiling/able to be committed to play High School soccer. |
No dog in this fight, but if it is a big enough issue for you and not saying it should not be; report it to the MLSNext club or coach of MLS team. Not sure what the penalties are, but once reported officially, I highly doubt MLSNext coach would allow it. |
How do these kids manage daily HS practices and almost daily club practices? |
Not creepy at all. I also remember you posting this last year. Some coaches allow superstars to miss practices and still play the entire game. Some coaches allow superstars to act worse than they should. No its not fair. Such is life. Get over it. |
The only people I would see caring about this are either MLS Next coaches who don't want their players getting two-footed buy some rec kid or parents whose kids are on the bubble of making varsity. Having some MLS Next kids on the HS team would probably help the overall aesthetic of the game. They might actually try to play soccer instead of the usual kick and run garbage that 95% of HS games devolve into. |
That’s just stupid. A third group might be ECNL kids who felt like they made a sacrifice by playing in a lesser league so they could play for their school. Your imagination and probably a lot of other qualities are limited. |
Sounds like you should be complaining about the hs coaches then. If they know mlsnext kids dropped out last season, it's on the coaches if they want to pick them up again for this season lol. |
Would be interesting to see verifiable factual data on serious players who choose HS soccer over Philadelphia Union Academy 🤔 |
Philly Union is not Bethesda, SYC, Achilles or Alexandria. It’s not even MLS Next Let’s use some realistic examples that a competitive soccer player in Virginia might consider.
When there are clubs that are equal caliber to each other (ie- MLS- SYC or Alexandria or Achilles vs VDA or Arlington or Richmond) then yeah some kids might actually prefer to play where they are able to have the high school soccer experience in addition to a competitive one). |
The HS coaches are trying to field the best possible team.
The parents who should be complaining are the MLS-Next parents whose kids aren't playing HS b/c (a) they are following the MLS-N rules and are being deprived of playing HS, or (b) their MLS-N team may go down the drain if those kids get DQd from the team/league for playing HS. |
VHSL had rules about adding players after kids leave the team. Looks like the leagues/teams would have to be notified early in the process if your goal is to open up a spot for your kid. |
