Who are these families with household incomes of $45k or $60k? $70k?

I’m seeing incomes like this quoted as needed to be this insanely low to get financial aid and certain private scholarships. Who is making these household incomes who also has a 17 year old applying to college? Two Walmart store employees make far more than that even, so I must be missing something. Is there cash being stashed under the mattress?

OP is proof that income bears no correlation to intelligence.

Is this post really that surprising when half the families on here cry poor at $300k?

Frankly quite a few people.

This is going to blow your mind: "The number of people earning less than $30,000 accounts for 44.76% of the population."

" According to Social Security data from 2021, the median household income was $37,586.03, an 8.59% increase over 2020 ($34,612.04)."

Where did you grow up?

Drive up to Pennsylvania and go to any of the economically depressed towns in PA. You will see plenty of families with that household income.

Half of the families in the US earn $75K or less. (Family doesn’t necessarily mean two wage earners.)

+1 There are a lot of people who don't have degrees, OP, and they make barely $30/hour, which amounts to something like $62K.

The more you know.. the less ignorant you are.

From what I gather from the OP, he/she assumes “the poor” are not/should not have children with higher education aspirations!

House cleaners and construction workers paid in cash.
Single moms with 3+ kids who work part time or intermittently.

I used to work for the DC Public Library System. A librarian's salary 'only' goes up to $85,000. Much of that time they are making $70,000 or below. And that's for a professional. I imagine other salaries are same there. The library assistants make less than $70,000 and there are alot of those trying to support families. That's my experience, OP.
