Tyler renovation -- swing space?

Anonymous
My partner was on the Tyler virtual open house last night and they mentioned that there will be a renovation starting in 2026 that will require them to vacate the entire building. Does anyone happen to know where they'd move to during that time? I've seen mention of swing spaces for I think JO Wilson reno, but can't figure out where the swing space actually is. We are going to visit Tyler in person later this month so I'll ask then but figured I'd also try the DCUM hive mind. Thanks!

JO wilson definitely hasn't been renovated.

I'm not sure where you're going to swing to. Maybe a set of trailers somewhere. Could be the KC Lewis building in Bloomingdale. Could be Emery, in Eckington.

I know the JO Wilson renovation is coming up before 2026 (maybe next year? Was not clear from the open house I attended but I had to leave early and couldn't ask follow up questions). Trying to decide if it would be worth it to try and get a spot at Miner or Appletree for PK because I really do not want a car commute (nor would I feel comfortable putting my 3 year old on a shuttle bus). We are IB for JO but could make a walking or bike commute to Miner or Appletree work if the swing space is too far.

Maury did on-site trailers which I think was smart. It's not as nice of a space as you might get in another facility, but if you want to hold onto IB families, finding ways to keep the swing space IB is really smart.

There's a swing space in my neighborhood - 11th St and Euclid? Somewhere around there.

Maury’s trailers were not on site. They were on the grounds of Eliot-Hine.

Old Banneker building? I think a different school is going to use that.

Not onsite at all... On site of a middle school .5 a mile a way. (What elementary school has room on site to fit trailers for its entire population?) Doubtlessly closer than where they otherwise would have been, but JOWilson is only about a mile from its swing space, so not totally dissimilar.

If Tyler uses the swing space that I'm told JOW plans to use, it's the space SWS just vacated... near the end of the trolley line a few blocks off H Street.

Lafayette fit trailers for its entire population, but they had a large field and use of the park as a playground.

SWS recently had to move out for their renovation. I think they were somewhere near two rivers young in trailers.

Can I just say how effed up it is that people are forced to crowdsource information about what schools are going next and where the temp spaces will be located? This is another example of DCPS falling down on the job. This information should be known and published BEFORE the lottery for the year those schools will be impacted.

The renovation is three years away!

Please point me to the DCPS website where it shows what schools are being renovated in 23-24 and 24-25 and which swing space they'll be using. I'll wait.
