Wegovy Side Effects

Anonymous
I’m considering going on Wegovy, but I’ve been following some people on TT and some are getting really sick on it. So sick that they have to go to the ER. If you’re on it, can you share with me how you’ve felt, especially with nausea? Also, do you find that certain food cause sickness?

TIA

I’ve been taking Ozempic, which is exactly the same medicine. The only negative side effect I’ve had is fatigue the first couple of days after the shot.No nausea. Make sure you start at the lowest dose (0.25) and stay on it for 4 weeks.

Will take my 3rd shot this weekend, so still on the lowest dose. No side effects yet

You ramp up doses starting at 0.25 a week. I started at 0.5 because there were shortages at the time. My biggest complaint was nausea, and I got Zofran for when I really needed it and used ginger tea or ate low-sugar ginger which also really helped.

I wouldn't trust TikTok for medial advice, that's for sure. There are some moderated FB groups that are much better.

I have seen multiple reports that doctors who don't know what they're doing will start their patients off at high doses like 1.7 or even 2.4, and that will land you in the hospital right quick. There are ramp-up doses for very good reasons!

Some people get pretty sick, even on the lower doses. I've never heard of anyone going to the hospital who followed the proper titration schedule though. Just people who mistakenly for whatever reason started at 1 mg.

Have Zofran, Tums, and pepto on hand.

If you're in some of the FB groups, I've seen people talking about getting sick, but I do wonder what "really sick" means – and I think it means something different for everyone. I assume TT is even more dramatic because...it's TT.

Some people can't tolerate even mild nausea, but I've had GI issues my whole life, so my tolerance of feeling "off" is probably higher than many. I'm on week 7, starting with 4 weeks at .25 and then going to .5 and my side effects have been mild, with the worst the very first week. Even then, it was mild nausea and mild fatigue. No food aversions or anything that came close to vomiting. I'm sure there is a percentage of people who can't tolerate these meds at all, but I suspect user error is to blame a lot of the time. Also, drama gets clicks.

This is a really bad take. I'm not a dramatic person, typically have a very strong stomach, ramped up even slower than recommended (stayed on 0.25mg for 7 weeks), and was pretty sick on and off the first three months, including episodes of vomiting and miserable nausea and heartburn, plus the horrible and excessive sulphuric burps. This is not an uncommon experience. They're not exaggerating for clicks, it's just that everyone is different and reacts differently, so it's wise for OP to anticipate these kinds of side effects.

Fair enough – I’m the PP. I don’t have much to compare it to, so thank you for saying this. Genuinely. Admittedly, I have felt that a lot of the people complaining have been overly dramatic, so your post helps put in better perspective that I’ve just been lucky and not just “people are dumb.” I don’t mean that as jerkily as it sounds – there are just so many crazy posts ranging from “it’s already been 2 days and I haven’t lost weight” to “I took the whole pen at once, is that okay” that I’m clearly just being a judgy jerk here. I hope you’re feeling better and good luck to OP.

This is the OP - thanks for everyone’s feedback. I’m a bit worried about the stomach issues because I already have a temperamental stomach. So, I’m wondering if Wegovy would just make it worse? Of course, I’ll never know until I try it.

Just do it. It will be fine. I take my Ozempic after dinner. It’s easier to handle the fatigue that way.

I lost 15lbs at the lowest dose, however when I went up to .50, I had severe abdominal cramping. So much so that my doctor made me go to the ER to get a CT scan and stop the medicine immediately. There was nothing on the CT scan, we don't know what caused the cramping but it went away about a week after I took my last dose of the medicine.

*Of course I gained that 15lbs back.

Me again - I had very, very mild nausea on the lowest dose, it was totally fine. I never got "sick", but the cramping had me literally doubled over in pain. That had never happened to me before - it was one of those "aha, so THIS is what doubled over in pain means" moments.

I was in the study for Wegovy before it came out (have posted about my experience on DCUM frequently), the nausea was rough, never bad enough for me to go to ER. I will say after I got to the higher doses I had “doubled over” pain maybe twice that would last a couple hours.

I lost over 100lbs. Very important to not over eat, when you are full, STOP EATING. If you overeat, you will pay, it’s coming out one way our another. Drink water, eat as much protein as you can and exercise.

Thanks for chiming in. Are you still on the meds to maintain the weight loss?
