late night snacking and salt craving

I've never been prone to late night snacking but found that I'm feeling like I need to munch at 10 at night. I bought carrots, tangerines, and Werthers to take the edge off, but I'm finding what I really want is something salty, like chips--though I'm normally not a chip eater and I don't want to get into that (see thread on ultraprocessed foods). Since these sugary things aren't doing it for me, I'm going to try a salted rice cake tonight. Any other tips or hacks? I'm guzzling water and herbal tea too, but that doesn't help.

The last thing I eat most days is a spoonful of organic natural peanut butter at midnight (night owl). It's just roasted, salted peanuts (no oil or sugar) and I find it very satisfying whether I'm craving salty or sweet. I'll eat a handful of blueberries with it sometimes.

I am always a little hungry a few hours after dinner (doesnt matter what I had for dinner). This seems to have no impact on my ability to maintain my weight.

Everyone is going to tell you to eat at 6, brush your teeth and go to bed so you don't accidentally consume a rice cake.

+1 This, except I usually eat an apple with the pnut butter.

I also crave savory late at night. A piece of cheese satisfies me the most, preferably sharp cheddar.

Although I try not to do it - not because I'm worried about the one square of cheese, but because sometimes when I start eating late at night I can't stop and end up binging. So, right now I just have a blanket rule that I don't eat after 8pm

Lesser evil popcorn. And eat the snack before the craving hits and eventually your body will stop craving.
