Coldplay is so damn cheesy & boring

I feel like I can’t say this anyone, as so many people I know love them.

Just watched Coldplay perform on SNL. They are so cheesy & cringe. All their music sounds the same. The lyrics are just so sappy and Chris Martin is such tool.

I’m not usually this negative, but I feel like this has been on my chest for years.

Coldplay is lame. Milquetoast music.

Agreed. U2 too.

Yep. He always sounds like he’s singing with a head cold.

No U2 is awesome

The Astronaut was a cover Jin’s song which Coldplay co-wrote. Jin was forced to enlist in the military just weeks after it was released and this was only the second live performance of the song. Coldplay members all wore Wootteo pins. The SNL performance represented a deep friendship between BTS and Coldplay, the day before the Grammys and the nomination of their collab song My Universe (which lost).

I liked all their albums up until Ghost Stories. I don’t know what happened to them after that.

Ryder!

Coldplay sucks. Their music is bad and depressing and like old, limp lettuce.

I had a friend in London 20 years ago who called them "bedwetters" and he was right.

I've seen some bad performances on SNL in the past couple of years (hello Sam Smith and Machine Gun Kelly), but Saturday night's took the cake.

US were an awesome band fo their first few albums. Then like most bands they evolved into mediocrity. But I'd never put them in the category as Coldplay this past Saturday.

.....but how did you feel about them in 2003?

Such an original thought in 2023. You could go way out on a limb next time and savage Nickelback.

99.99% of current music is un-memorable, OP, at any given period in history. By definition. It's easy entertainment for the masses. Nothing creative or original.

Think about the entire arc of music history. There's a reason people remember Bach's partitas, Mozart's symphonies or Beethoven's 5th. They were all musical breakthroughs of their time. What is the musical breakthrough of the 20th century? The 21st? Musical styles are all very scattered these days, so I can't tell, but it will be interesting to see what future generations retain from our period of history.

U2 got old and middle of the road, but at its prime was a fantastic band. I remember prowling around record shops in NYC in the early 80s looking for the import version of "I Will Follow," being awed by "Sunday Bloody Sunday," and crying in my car the first time I heard "Price (In the Name of Love)." Don't expect younger listeners to get it, but they are famous for a reason.
