| Can anyone tell me what Maryland's laws are regarding listing a spouse as an excluded driver on auto insurance? I have a perfect driving record yet I found out my husband listed me as an excluded driver on the car insurance policy. I was never asked to sign anything nor was I asked to show proof of other insurance coverage. thanks. |
| Does your husband like you? |
| Any rules around this are going to be based on your insurance company, not state law. Call them. |
| Ask your husband why he did this. |
| I did a quick search and it looks like it's a state policy thing, not insurance carrier. But I can't seem to find what it is for Maryland. |
+1. What else is he excluding you from? |
| He says you won’t be driving his car and he’s therefore not paying insurance for you to drive it? My insurance won’t allow that, everyone in the house has to be listed for all the cars (painful when it comes to teen drivers and expensive cars we own). |
I have Erie and I can exclude people. I have a 20 year old and I don’t allow him to drive. He has a license. I don’t pay insurance for him. If I allow him to drive, I would be personally responsible for any accident. If he takes my car without permission i have to report it stolen. |
That makes sense. But why the spouse with a perfect driving record? |
Why is he not allowed to drive? |
How is that your business? |
But if your 20yo drove another car and got into an accident would he be insured? If he borrowed his friends can and got in an accident would he be covered. Couldn't the other person's insurance come after you? This seems like an easy way to set yourself up for inadvertent legal headaches and financial ruin. |
I do not think another person’s insurance could come after a 20 year old’s parent (unless the 20 yo was driving the parent’s car) but it could certainly come after the 20 year old. |
| Didn't know this is a thing. My wife can't drive two of our cars (manual and we've tried and failed to teach her multiple times). Can we save on insurance by having one fewer driver on those two cars? |
Probably because the PP doesn't want to pay for the 20yo? I think my carrier requires kids, with a license, living at home, be on the policy. |
