If my child is zoned for Gunston and I’m not excited about it

Are there any other options? Aside from HB Woodlawn, which is so small and popular that it’s not realistically an option.

Go back in time and buy a house somewhere you're excited about?

I thought you to lottery to another school.

My kids go to bilingual program at Gunston and we are happy with it (other than the equity based grading system). What concerns you?

Gunston is overcrowded, so you can likely get a neighborhood transfer.

Move. We did.

Apply for a transfer to Dorothy Hamm. It is under capacity.

Most years the comprehensive middle schools offer "neighborhood transfers." The window will open in the spring - keep an eye out for School Talks about it. They actually prioritized getting kids out of the Gunston zone into other schools last year since it was so overcrowded. It's a lottery - the only catch is that if you get a spot, they don't provide transportation.

Williamsburg is pretty small right now- you could look for a neighborhood transfer there or Hamm. We have been really happy with Williamsburg. Transportation is up to you, though.

Gunston is fine. My kid is having a great time.

They’ll open the lottery for neighborhood transfers on February 20th. I also live in the gunston zone and know many people who are very happy there. If it’s an option this year I will apply to TJ for IB

To add, I would be fine with Gunston, I really liked the vibe at the information night.

Move. We were zoned to Kenmore and that’s what we did.
