| I'm in need of some new clothes and have a trip to Morocco coming up. It's cool and sometimes cold there right now. Can you recommend some clothing items I should wear/buy? Pants, jacket, shoes, even a bag. I'm prepared to buy a week's worth of clothing (I need new clothes anyways). Prefer mid-budget range items (think j.crew, boden, etc). |
| Loose, long pants or skirts. Long-sleeved T-shirt’s or button-downs. Wrap cardigans and shawl type scarves. The shawl should be able to double as a head covering when needed. |
| Don't underestimate how cold it gets there at night. Definitely bring hat, gloves, scarf, maybe vest for underneath and down or insulated coat. The coldest I've ever been was camping in the desert in Jordan in March! |
You do not need a head covering- I was there last year. |
| I just wore regular clothes - jeans and long sleeve tops and a coat. Don’t buy a new wardrobe for this. Just buy new regular clothes. |
This. Buy whatever you would wear at home in that weather. |
| Morocco is not a wealthy country. Wear standard travel clothes, nothing flashy. I wore a lot of black because it’s very dusty everywhere. Like a PP said bring a winter coat. We did a hot air balloon ride and spent the night in the desert so we also brought hats, scarves and gloves and we still froze in the desert. Coldest I’ve ever been in my life! I did bring a head scarf but never used it. We’ve seem the inside of many mosques before so didn’t go into any. |

I like REi for comfortable trekking clothes. They have some button downs. I also like the pants with multiple pockets that zip.
Not trendy, but practical. You can use any scarf/ pashmina as a head covering if you need one. |
She said 'when necessary'. I've been there and a lot of other Muslim countries. If you go to any non-touristy religious sites, you'll need to cover your head. When you're cold, it's also nice to cover your head. Hell, if you were traveling in Eastern Europe/Russia, you'd also need to bring something to cover your head when you go into a church. |
| I was there when it was hot so I wore a lot of long linen skirts, tank tops and always had a scarf with me. When out in public - wrapped it around my shoulders and upper arms. Used it to cover my head if needed. Found Morocco much less uptight then other Muslin countries I have been too. Maybe because they have a rich history of welcoming religious dissidents like Jewish, Christians, etc. Never got harassed or even stared at rudely. |
+1 I would also bring clothes that you can layer. I tend to pack light with separates that are interchangeable. For example, I have black leggings that I can wear under a pair of loose black pants or a longer flowing skirt. I have a long sleeved black shirt that can be worn by itself, under a sweater or under a knit jacket. The skirts/pants can be worn with any of the shirts/sweaters/jackets. I have nice black hiking/walking boots and a pair of black sneaker. I may take low, chunky heels depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing. Morocco is fabulous and if you forget anything or need more scarves/clothes, you'll have great choices! |
An example of good travel black skirt or pants. Thanks |

Suggest Merino wool, great temperature regulator, doesn’t retain odor.

| Why would you wear black when it’s dusty? Wear khaki and tan and other neutral colors. |
