| Anybody applying for 9th grade and considering it as their 1st/2nd choice? Seems like a previous discussion was deleted so lets keep it civil. |
| Yes, it’s a 1st choice. |
| Us too. We have a 8th grader at Deal and are In-bound for JR |
| Well, the last thread was deleted because its OP was a racist. She wasn’t asking who was applying, she was asking if DCUM thought that Banneker would ever have enough white lids enrolled for her to consider spend her kids there. It was pretty disgusting. |
I think we’d all prefer not to relive that thread. Best of luck to all the 8th graders applying, to Banneker and to all the DCPS application high schools. |
| my child graduated from Banneker in 2022 and felt the teachers did a great job of college prep. best of luck to all! |
| It's DD's (or our) first choice. Really hoping she gets an interview. |
| First choice as well. |
I have an older kid at Banneker. The teachers are just amazing! I have been really impressed. |
| For the current parents at Banneker, how soon after the application deadline did you receive notification of an interview. Did you sit in on the interview? |
| Seems like a good day to say, I have a kid who missed the GPA cutoff for Walls but has a lot of academic potential (as measured in post-7th grade GPA and standardized test scores). Kid is thriving at Banneker. |
March 4, for an interview the next week. Interview was half an hour long, with three faculty members; they asked a parent/other adult to join for the end. |
| What are extracurriculars like at Bannker? I know a parent who thought they were lacking, but kid’s last 2 years were during covid, so hard to tell if that’s normal. |
Interview seems unfair for neurodiverse kids. |
PP here. I suspect DD will have a similar fate at Walls this cycle. That said, Banneker has been first choice for years and I graduated from Walls. Absolutely a wonderful experience for me, but Banneker appears to be a better fit for her. Thanks from a parent who needed to hear this. |
