How to keep waffles crispy (no oven)

Anonymous
I will be cooking for a crowd and while I will have access to a buffet-style warmer, there will not be an oven or toaster. I will be making waffles on site using waffle irons, but likely will be churning them out faster then people will be taking them. Is there any way to keep them from getting soggy?

Best bet is to put them on an elevated, wire rack and don’t cover them. The humidity in the room could be enough after some time though.

+1. And don't undercook them.

Consider a different food or try to not get too ahead of the people eating them. Maybe someone else could be the waffle person if you will be juggling other tasks?

Yep, this. The sogginess comes from trapped moisture that can’t evaporate.

Stacking will be the problem.

Or you slightly undercook them in advance and have someone just man a toaster to warm and crisp them

Could you bring a toaster oven to store them in?

Op here. No toaster or toaster oven allowed. I can try the wire rack. I’m guessing the choice is soggy but warm or crispy-ish and room temp.

Pancakes would work better

Only DCUM. "I can't use a toaster". DCUM answer? "Use a toaster". "I have to make waffles." DCUM answer? "Don't make waffles".
Its predictable at this point.

She did not say she HAD to make waffles. Maybe it was just part of her plan and there are better options. Toaster..you are right on that part.

You know, maybe don't sh!t on people trying to be helpful on a ridiculous thread. Sometimes the details get lost after the first few posts because the issue is so bizarre and the crowdsourcing is so odd.

Now I want waffles, dammit

No, they’ll be both soggy and lukewarm. Not trying to be mean but you should try this out first and see that I’m right.
