Would you accept this offer? Dealer is offering to trade us a brand new 2023 for our 2022.

Dealer called us claiming there are far better lease promos than when we leased last spring. As they described it, we'd get to swap out to a brand new 2023, same car, in the same or in a different color if we want, for no difference in lease payment. It would of course require a new lease, so essentially extending our time in the car for 12 additional months. Our 2022 has nearly 12,000 miles on it.

Is their an angle we're missing? If they're being 100% honest, it's just a way to churn a new sale?

They want the profit on your slightly used car and to move another new one. I would do it if you like a lease.

do you have to pay tax, tags, title all over again? The payment may be the same, but what about what you initally put down? If you have to put down anything, then it is not just a pure swap. Otherwise, sounds like a good deal.

Take the deal.

What car is it?

It seems like a no-brainer because I like the car and the payment is pretty good considering its MSRP. I may even like a different color and new is always great. But I just don't want to decide to do it, then we get to the dealership and there's some bait and switch or money due. They claim it's sign and drive nothing due to swap and that they're being totally transparent. I'm just always cynical I guess.

They are churning in order to generate a new "sale" and a new commission.

Which car manufacturer & which model ? There can be a significant difference from one model year to the next.

Well, they always make money off of leases. Clearly it’s a good deal for them regardless of whether you keep the old lease or get a new one.

Sure you can do it, but you'll have to pay tax again, which isn't nothing. Probably a few thousand. at this point, I would not consider a 2023 that "new". It's old and they are probably trying to move them off the lot.

The 2023 model year wasn't available for sale until about October. I wouldn't call that old.

I just read up on 2022 vs 2023 model year and the dealer confirmed, no major differences, unfortunately. I wish there were some extra goodies but nope. If I do it, I'll probably get a different color so it feels a little newer. Current color is black.

Why aren't you revealing the manufacturer (make) and model ?

if they pay you in a rebate for tax tags delivery etc.

The sales guy is just trying to move another car, going through their past customers like shaking couch cushions for coins.

I don’t get it. Why bother if it is the same car. Why does it matter that it has 0 miles vs 12k. You will return it anyways after 3 years.

We bought new cars last year; both are 2022 models. Test drove a 2023 model of one in a sought-after color fully intending to purchase a third vehicle. The SUV engine was much noisier & did not ride as well as our 2022 despite no changes to this model which was first introduced in 2022.
