Two teens, 15 and 17, approached a man at a Largo gas station with guns and demanded his car. When he didn't move fast enough, the owner was shot, and died later.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/01/23/teen-charged-murder-largo-carjacking/ They are both being charged as adults, with murder, armed carjacking, and other charges. DC needs to do this as well, any time a gun, weapon or serious threat of violence is involved - charge them as adults. And hold the prosecutors and judges personally accountable if they drop the ball. Protest outside their houses if we have to. Enough of this dropping of charges, violent felon kids back on the street a week later crap. Enough already. Who thinks this crap is fine? Council? Some NGO advising them? Let's protest outside their damn houses, too. |
| 15 year old humans don't understand that acquiring a gun, choosing to actively threaten a a vehicle owner, and shooting and killing the owner is wrong. Their brains or something. |
| Good. They have probably been criminals for years. You don't just pick up a gun one day and carjack someone and shoot them. No use for them in society. |
Can we put them in prison with their parents for a few years? |
Yes, they do. They may not realize that when they do the first 3 steps in your list there's a good chance they will kill someone rather than just injure them. But please don't tell me that they don't know it's illegal to acquire a gun or that it is wrong to threaten someone or that it is wrong to shoot at someone. They do. |
Yikes, way to display your racism. Sorry black lives don't matter to you. |
Who cares? They choose the life and they can't be redeemed. |
+1 |
Does it matter what color they are?? No, it does not. |
You would not say this if they were white |
The language here is insulting. The victim was shot...by whom? Dinosaurs? Would the WaPo "journalists" had written the same thing about their dad? |
Hey genius, what race is the dead victim? Why do criminals lives matter but victims’ lives don’t? |
false. there were some white teen carjackers in MoCo recently tried as adults. carjacking is a very serious crime and I agree merits being charged as an adult. it is a planned, deliberate crime - not an impulsive decision of a child who “did not understand.” |
I do actually think there should be a category of criminal negligence for a parent who is so negligent, abusive, or otherwise derelict in their obligations as a parent to a minor that the minor commits a violent crime. It wouldn't be applicable in every single case and I think you need to make the standard of proof here pretty high to address constitutionality issues. But I think parents should understand that they bear some responsibility for this. I also think that if he helped people understand that if they did things like attend parenting classes, and ensured their kid attended school regularly, then even if their kid committed a violent crime, they wouldn't be implicated. Create some kind of floor for parenting so people understand that if you are unable to deliver even these baseline levels of care for kids, they you are really and truly culpable for the physical harm your child might cause another person. |
Wow. So much racism on dcum |
