| When I walk into a restaurant, or even an ice cream shop that makes waffle cones, there is a very distinct smell and flavor to those waffles that I can’t seem to replicate at home. Does anybody have a recipe that would taste as good as a restaurant waffle? |

Caramelized sugar smell maybe with some yeast/malty scent thrown in?
If so, try this recipe https://abountifulkitchen.com/leige-waffle-recipe/ |
| It's from weeks/months/years of cooking sugar. You won't get that smell in your house unless you cook sugary batters a ton in your house. |
Taste or smells? light and fluffy or tasty? the light and fluffy waffles IMO are tasteless but you create that by using whipped egg whites add to the batter separate from the yolk, flour, etc. yummy waffles use buttermilk. |
| Buy a commercial waffle mix from Sam’s club. That’s probably what the restaurants use. |
| I’m willing to keep trying recipes and buying mixes until I get that flavor that I have in mind. Never giving up! |
| My kitchen smells that way when I use my big waffle iron and the Krusteaz Belgian mix in the blue box. |
| It's malt, mostly. |
| Krusteaz |
| I agree that the "smell" is commercial waffle mix with "natural flavor" to give it that distinctive smell. You can approximate it at home by adding a bit of malted barley flour to your regular flour, upping the sugar in your recipe, and adding vanilla. But at the end of the day... you still won't get the same smell as the ice cream shop or the commercial mixes, because those use "natural flavor". |

The best recipe we've tried. Don't skip out on the egg whites separation, if you want the best results.
I recommend you read the whole thing before attempting (or just skip the post and jump to "instructions" because the blog post says to combine the wet ingredients--but that includes sugar. Nonsensical, IMO. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/my-favorite-buttermilk-waffles/ |
| Waffles don't smell or taste like waffle cones. You could buy a waffle cone press and mix, if that's what you're really wanting |
| Add more vanilla? |
| The best crispy waffles are any recipe that uses sparkling water. Caramelize some sugar and you can blend that into the mix. Perfection. |
