I do not care for sweet potatoes, but for health reasons I would like to try. I'm looking for something savory, not fried, and not mashed / blended. Do you have a recipe you love? |
just roast with onions, drizzle EEOO and add some s, p and thyme |
I like them baked whole for like an hour and then eat cold, sometimes with Kim chi. It’s not savory per se but not really sweet. |
Cascadian farms make a hash with potatoes, sweet potatoes and carrots. You just heat in the skillet, very good. |
Maybe try it in chili?
https://www.pickuplimes.com/recipe/sweet-potato-spiced-chilli-18 I often just cube it and put it on a sheet pan with other things, toss with herbs or spices and roast. Having a bite that's got some spice and a mix of sweet potato and Brussel sprouts or meat can cut the sweetness. What health benefits are you looking for that you can't get in other foods? |
Sweet potato and black bean tacos

Sweet potato, black bean and goat cheese tacos. Delish. I have a vegetarian DD and we do this once a week. For her I sometimes do refried beans in her tacos instead of black beans but the sweet potatoes are amazing this way. |
It's hard for sweet potatoes not to become mash. And some are very hard to cut. But if I had to do no mash, not baked potatoe style, I'd try cubed and baked. So like little fries. At least the exterior would have a crisp to it. |
I make them like this but I cute them and roast with garlic coves, thyme and crushed red chili pepper. I also will bake them and then dress them with some butter, chopped green chilis and some fresh mozzarella along with salt and crushed black pepper. tear up some fresh basil to garnish. this is from Jamie Oliver |
I roast them with salt, pepper, garlic, smoked paprika or other savory spices. You can also roast them and toss them/drizzle them with a vingigarette or yogurt tahini dressing. |
I like sweet potato hash. You can just make it in the oven. Sweet potatoes, onions, peppers. Roasted in oil, salt, spices of your choice at 400 until crispy. Cut the potatoes pretty small so they cook faster. |
Sweet potato tacos. |
I like the roasted with salt, garlic, cumin, olive oil |
Try the Japanese white fleshed kind, they’re not as sweet as the orange kind.
I like them roasted with a good amount of salt to offset the sweetness - roast them till the edges get a bit caramelized. I then add them to any number of things like salads, grain bowls, tacos etc. |
